I did. TV went off air at midnight, then a test pattern till 6am. 4 kids 2 adults, one bathroom, 4 party line for phone. 3 channels and had to change channel with pliers since the knob broke off. Oh the memories. LOL

I was born in 1968. We had one bathroom, regular old phones, me or my sister were the "remote control" for the TV,. We usually were outside in the evenings in the garden or sitting at the picnic table with the neighbors. Here I am today, we have antenna TV and are outside in the evenings (me, as much of the day as I can). I don't pay for TV, or Internet (phone is a hot spot). Give me the good life!!

1968? And here I thought you were in your 20's.

I grew up that way as well, except for the party line. The area we lived in had discontinued them by that point.

No a.c., had an attic fan. If we had a box or tabletop fan I dont recall, but I dont think we did.

We didnt have a tv until about 1973, and that was a second hand one my mother was given. We were all the remote, and I remember tin foil on the rabbit ears!

For entertainment, we had an am/fm radio that plugged in, sat in the living room. Seems that it was on all the time, tuned to the main top 40 hits channel, I think 104FM, or maybe it was KILT FM100. Played all the rock hits, over and over.

We mostly played outside after school and weekends. Winters were generally very mild so we could even be outside then.

We had toys, board games, my brothers had bikes, they did some limited sports at school, etc.

Mom worked all the time but was home every evening and on Sundays, dad was simply not there 99% of the time. We were on our own a lot but had the sense not to do stupid, dangerous things.

It was generally a good childhood. Not perfect. But its better to forget the crappy times and focus on good memories.

I think that I've got you all beat. There was no TV signal and thus no TV until I was 10 years old and then only one channel. No phone, if you needed to make a phone call you went to the public phone box at the end of the street with a handful of pennies. Besides, there weren't many people to call, no one had phones in their house unless you were extremely wealthy. There was no indoor toilet. All the toilets were outback and shared. There was no washer or drier. There was a shared washhouse out back and a drying green to hang your clothes. There was no electricity in the apartments. We had gas fixtures for illumination and even gas street lights.
Now, this wasn't in some rural area or poor slum, the apartments were 100 yards from the main street of a 250,000 population city. Britain, and especially Scotland, was a poor country after WW11. Things didn't get a whole lot better until the 1960s rolled around.

Only fan I remember as a kid was a metal table top one the took 30 seconds to spool up to speed and a safety cage that you could fit your entire arm through 😂. Of course I lied to mom about how I cut my fingers after she had just told me to not touch the fan.
