Finished the hitch, enough clearance between the arch and the trailer posts, we'll see how it stands up to a load.

Back at the 251 motor out of my first J5, finished replacing the valve guides today , hope to cut the seats tomorrow .The new intake guides fit perfect with a light ream after install, the new exhaust guides had to be cut and drilled on the lathe, as the bore was not big enough for sodium valves. I didn't have a 7/16 self piloting reamer for the exhaust guides , so made up a sleeve to align the reamer up through the lifter bores , worked good . My assistant was skeptical , but was wise enough to not bite the hand that feeds her .

Slowly but surely the cutting edge 1930's technology is going together , my oldest is off this week so we should make some progress. But the mild weather is here and cutting wood in the bush in the winter sun may change the plan.

Coming along nicely, oil pump to rebuild and install , then distributor and clutch/ bell housing . May be able to roll in the J5 and get a start on installing this week.

So engine is in, bit more to do before were stalled ,waiting for a rad. The rad I've been using was out of an m37 dodge, it needs to be rodded , and that's not on my favorite things to do list. So I ordered an aluminum 47-54 chev truck rad ,size seems right so we'll see how this works out.

Looks great! I did the same with the Ford 300 in the SW48….radiator was leaking, went with an aluminum replacement. I’ve got “leaks” in the Bombi radiator….will likely do the same. Having it recored is unbelievably expensive! I did have the in cab heater recored….was $250+.

We have an NMC Woolard tug where I work. Needed a radiator. Recore was $600.00 But still cheaper than new.

I used to work on those Woolards , the 3 we have at work parts was always an issue.Expensive and most of the time back ordered ,but that was over 8 yrs ago. The Cummins powerplants in them are great.

Got the rad mocked in place, certainly runs cool ,but we have some sheet metal work to do. Looks like the Flathead will live to fight another day, running good so that's done. Left track will have to be busted off , think we have a bad bearing on the rear wheel.

Finished the engine install it's running good, checked out the tracks all good. The cooling issues are solved with the aluminum rad, took the second one from Amazon before it suited . The Tig welding is good on them, but the first was twisted 3/4 " , the second less than 3/8", same batch . It was a 215.00 US experiment that worked out and I'll go that direction if I need another.

Hey J5B Lookin good there. This may be too old school but bundling plug wires together can cause cross firing. Perhaps new plug wire is not affected. Good work, bet it feels good.
