Asphalt driveway sealing - I have questions

I put an asphalt driveway in a year or 2 ago.
I want to get it sealed, not for looks, but to protect it from freeze damage.
There appears to be many types of sealants. Cold out of a bucket from a box store or hot tar from a pro and things inbetween.

What's the best approach/solution?

I've had two paved driveways in my lifetime. My first paved drive was a quarter mile long, so for me I'd go with a pro. They know what they're doing, they have all the tools and equipment to do it right. Plus they should be bonded and insured for your protection and piece of mind.
 
That's what I'm thinking. I'm curious though, what could go wrong where I need them bonded and insured?

Do they do hot tar? Should I insist on that?

Not sure what could go wrong, I just like being safe. I would do hot tar, it would get down in all the little cracks better. But I'm no expert. I've had it done a couple of times and that's the way they did it. Came out looking like a brand new driveway.

Driveway is 2000 sq/ft. 21-cents per sq/ft. $420. I signed up on the spot. See them in 3 weeks to get it done.

I did just weedeat the edges so there's no overlaying grass. They'll do final touch-up when they come in. They actually scrub the edges to get rid of any dirt residue.
