2 Versions of Linux on the same laptop?

I have an ACER laptop that I rarely use but just like to mess with. I have Ubuntu on it now. I checked online and it says it is possible to have more than one version of Linux on the same computer. I was wondering if anyone here has done that?

My laptop has Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and Windows XP on it and it works great.

I don't know why you could not do what I am doing, but instead of Windows have another version of Linux.

Which Linux are you contemplating, Linux Mint? I would like to try that.

A friend of mine said it's possible and easy. Just install it same as any the other version.
He also explained something (that I should have know but forgot) that Ubuntu doesn't even need to be installed. It can can run from a disk or a stick (thumb) drive.
