Anyone here on a S.A.R. team? Anyone use 'RECCO' rescue reflectors???

Have you ever used the system in real life? We were looking for something to work under snow, it didn't.

Anyone here on a S.A.R. team? Anyone use 'RECCO' rescue reflectors???

We tested this system in 1986 after nine people died on Mt. Hood. Not impressed

    Alpine Cat Jamboree 2024

Damn that's scary!! So wonderful that everyone got out of the truck. Looks like Cabbage Hill east of Pendelton. Pulling that hill is a grunt. We all take driving for granted. We recently had an accident on the same interstate near Baker. It took a while before I wanted to drive again. Be...

    Tucker and Ice Traction

Here it comes from the old fart. The last generation of steel pontoon Tuckers had grousers with taper. I have used them on 35 degree, not percent, side hills with solid ice which is impossible to walk on without crampons. This configuration was used in Antarctica on one of the 743 Sno-Cats to...

    DIY Groomer

If you install an accumulator and a valve to let oil from the upside(lift) of the cylinder, the bar will be able to float with down pressure. Add a gage so you know what pressure to use on various ice/snow conditions. Otherwise, you will go nuts trying to keep the bar on the surface. A less...

    Thiokol 4VL registration page

They had their ship together when they sloped the front window out at the top. No need for wipers when the wind doesn't blow. If the wind is blowing, I stay home. All the new sno machines have sloped back windshields, good for mach 3 travel I guess.

A big thank you to the Sno-Surfer for letting me tag along. Great company with PP, CT, 1BG. As the resident Old Dog, it was encouraging to see Lil Capt completely wear out two teenagers, go back and pick up two more and wear them out too. What a trooper.

    Tucker CrabWalk Option for sidehilling

SC stands for Sno Compaction. In my opinion, unless you use your Tucker to smash sno, it's not worth the inconvenience. For side hilling the standard system works well as it kicks the back end around to climb out. Backing a cat onto a trailer with SC is a pita. I would be removing the SC system...

    Best use of a snowcat?

This song was the total basis for raising my kids. And it worked out great. "Raise your kids and spoil your grandkids. The alternative is to spoil your kids, and you know how the rest goes."

"Snowzilla": A Comprehensive Tucker 1643 Project...

I use the same JD six-way Tee handle valve bank. My choice are Areoquip fittings. I can cut the hose to what I need but the idea is to just carry lengths of hose the sizes used and be able to replace the hose anytime it fails. Side benefit, don't pay someone to make them up= upgrade from hole...

    Cascade Cloud Cap Caper 2023

Mega thank Yous to the Hood River Crag Rats for the superior dedication in not only the finest mountain SAR, but to maintain and keep this 130-year-old historical building alive and well. They did a wonderful job with last weekend's fundraising event.

    Tucker tie rod.

Believe what DN said. You want the tie rod to be your fuse. This is common when the left front hits an immovable object. happens too when plowing with a blade. Rule #1 DON'T TURN STEERING WHEEL WHEN STOPPED. The rod you are using is fine.

1973 Tucker Sno Cat 1443 New to Me

This is a fine reference. What it does not cover is how to set pinion depth if you do not already have the pinion in the housing. A whole nuther ball of wax. What I have done in this case is turn a round cylinder, the diameter of the carrier bearings and make a machined block to go between the...
