My beloved dog's life is about to end. Natural, euthansia or pistol?

I think when they get to the point of not be able to eat, it's time. I hope you and your family get some comfort from all the wonderful memories you have from the time you had with her.

My beloved dog's life is about to end. Natural, euthansia or pistol?

I dealt with this twice in rapid succession 18 years ago and reading this thread instantly brings back the tears. We put Bert down because he was suffering with cancer. I was right there with him as he quietly drifted off. His companion, Rage of Angels, was oddly cuddly and comforting as we...

    Old Fashioned

I make these and use Angostura bitters and it's delicious. I imagine Cointreau would work too in place of Grand Marnier.

    Caribbean vacation destinations

On Antigua, we waited in line for hours to go through immigration. We almost missed our flight to get out of there. Ambergris Cay is safe . I've heard bad things about Belize City, but don't worry about that if you're going to the cay, since you just get on the puddle jumper at the airport.

    Caribbean vacation destinations

If you want isolation and looking to VRBO it, I'd say Roatan or Ambergris Cay in Belize. On Ambergris Cay, you get around by golf cart. Both beautiful and pretty reasonable. If you want all inclusive, we liked Antigua, but the airport is a GIANT pita. The Iberostar Resort at Playacar (about 90...

Anyone Watching The State of the Union Tonight?

Whoever orchestrated the Republican response should be fired. I couldn't stop cringing. The sports equivalent of striking out in slow pitch softball. Ridiculous.

New to me 2019 Lexus ES350 F sport

Welcome to the club, Doc. You're gonna love that car. :)

Are brand name computers worth it?

I've had my Dell laptop for 8 years. Every Acer I've had only lasted about half that long. I also have a 10 year old Asus tablet that I take on vacation with me multiple times every year.

    AWESOME Picture Thread II

This place is amazing - the inside is even more breathtaking. Antoni Gaudi was a very talented architect. But to be accurate, this is the Barcelona Cathedral (also breathtaking):

Might be looking for a new car, possibly a hybrid?

I've been waiting since October for my 2nd key fob from Lexus. Luckily, I paid for the credit card key ahead of time, so still 2 keys.

Anyone else drive with a police radar detector?

Years ago, I had an Escort but they were so expensive I switched to Cobra. They work reasonably well and at a fraction of the cost. The problem is that by the time you detect a laser, it's usually too late. Pulse radar makes it even tougher for these detectors to be effective. Waze is spotty...

    Property lines

Look up "adverse possession." Doing nothing means you could lose your land.

Where would you go on vacation?

We're headed to Roatan in November. The last time we were there, we had a blast - we even visited Pigeon Key (and almost got stuck there when the boat wouldn't start). Hostel-like amenities are not for us. We want all the creature comforts of having our own place.

Where would you go on vacation?

We spent a week on Bonaire back in December. While the shore diving was nice, I don't think I'd go back there. It's remarkably primitive.

    buy me a new TV

Samsung is another leader, but they're not cheap. For smaller smart TVs, it's hard to beat the TCL Roku TVs. We have had 2 for years and they just work. Roku also has virtually any app you would need. Amazon's having another Prime Day in October. You can get a pretty good deal on these at that time.

    IRS is making progress . . .

Eaxctly. That's what I was trying to say. :) A thing about irrevocable trusts - when you contribute to them, you could be considered to be gifting. The federal estate and gift tax affords the taxpayer a "unified credit" toward payment of the estate and gift tax. For example, a trust creator...

    IRS is making progress . . .

I think to be accurate, and for estate tax purposes, the tax would be on the $60,000 asset, not the $40,000 appreciation in the asset. The step up in basis is only used to reduce capital gains taxes heirs would pay if they sell the asset. Currently, the first 12.92 million of an estate is not...

Might be looking for a new car, possibly a hybrid?

Not directly relevant since it's not a hybrid, but I bought an ES 350 in October and I love it. The ride is quiet and comfy without sacrificing too much handling ability. The tech in this thing is pretty good, too - I'm definitely an Android auto convert. Price wasn't bad either, even when...
