    1980 DMC 1450 Snowcat

Thanks for the sugestions. I've listed it on three Facebook pages in addition to this page and have more interest than I can handle at this point! I'll try KSL if I don't sell it this week. I don't have a title for the trailer. I bought it at auction in Arizona with the cat and never went...

    OC-12 seal question

Few taps with a slide hammer and they popped right out. Will probably take them to a machine shop Monday to have the bearings pressed off.

    OC-12 seal question

Thanks. I may end up opening it up buts it’s a little more work than that because there a few other things that have to be removed before I can access the hatch in the floor to get to the case. I’ll put a slide hammer in the shaft and see if I can “gently” pop it out. Oh and that would be a...

    OC-12 seal question

Can I replace the outer seals on my OC -12 (DMC1450) without opening up the case? I pulled the 4 hex bolts but the axle shaft won’t pull out. Figured I make sure there is nothing internal holding it in before I apply more pressure.

DMC 1450 Track Tension and Wheel Guide Question

Finally getting back to snowcat projects and trying to figure out the spring issues on this machine. I’m about ready to take everything apart and have the springs re-arched/rebuilt. I’ve been taking a bunch of measurements and this is what I’m seeing. The “middle” set of springs have more arch...

    New DMC/Thiokol Imp Project

Picked this up on eBay for $20.02 including shipping. Maybe I over paid but I had to have it. LOL

DMC 1450 Track Tension and Wheel Guide Question

Thanks for the pictures. That helps. My front springs have quite a bit more arch than yours which is probably why I'm having the issues. The rear set look similar to yours. I had the same issues with the adjuster. Maybe from running the track too tight. The tube was standard material so...

DMC 1450 Track Tension and Wheel Guide Question

Remove the grease fitting to relieve the tension on the track. Replace the fitting and pump in grease to tension.

DMC 1450 Track Tension and Wheel Guide Question

Not completely. I was thinking the same thing as you mention though. That front set of springs has thicker leaves and more arch than the rear. Does anyone have specs on the springs or pictures of what it should look like? I replaced the tires with the Dyna-Trac tires and it’s not as bad although...

    DMC 1450. New to forum.

I guess they must have run out of the old Thiokol data plates some time between your #1415 and my #1478.

Interesting BearGap. Here's the data plat off of mine. I always assumed it was a 1980.

I need info on greasing the front idlers on a DMC 1450

I pop off the caps whenever I grease the wheels and pack the caps also.

I need info on greasing the front idlers on a DMC 1450

My front idler has a zerk fitting. If you zoom in on the picture you can see it pointing towards the rear. I'm sure you looked but did you check the inward facing side? The cap should be a standard friction cap.
