    WTS 1981 DMC 1450 WT

My 1981 DMC 1450 WT is for sale. I’m looking at a 1200A flatbed with pretty nice track hardware and sprockets and need to make some room. 2100 hours with excellent running engine and transmission. The frame is undamaged and it looks like it’s never had a blade before. This Wide Track 1450 has...

Has anyone converted a 1450 narrow to wide track?

Long and thin shape didn’t survive quench. Darn spell correct.

Has anyone converted a 1450 narrow to wide track?

You had to ask...?. I made two sets. I had the first set heat treated at Seattle Heat Treating. The grousers looked good from a galloping horse, but almost all kinked, twisted or bowed just enough to be junk. Ouch. The long and relatively thin shape did I checked with Brad at MNO, should have...

    DMC 1450 alternator upgrade

I greatly respect this input as mkntrakes has decades more experience than me. I agree. Mine is 185 on and 165 back off.

    DMC 1450 alternator upgrade

I recently made this same improvement. I put on a trans cooler with a fan that draws 18 amps at startup and added a bunch of lights. I stayed with the original 3 wire alternator setup, so I could keep the same voltage regulator and it’s wiring. The newer setup is the single wire. My new...

Has anyone converted a 1450 narrow to wide track?

BTW, I used pre-punched belting from MN Outdoors. The 4 belts came ready to go and worked perfectly. I used them as a DA (determinate assembly) aid to keep everything else lined up, as it was my first build. They made it easy. The backing plates are just 1/8”x1” strap from the metal yard. I used...

Pictures. I think we hijacked this topic. Maybe we should PM unless it’s all good.

Has anyone converted a 1450 narrow to wide track?

I bought 16 gauge 4130 sheet steel and had it formed into 1”x2” channel. I made them full width, just for the heck of it. I drilled the 1068 holes on my drill press. My grouser bolts are 5/16” so I drilled them 11/32”, and the wheel guide bolts are 3/8” so I drilled those 13/32”. Then I used my...

Has anyone converted a 1450 narrow to wide track?

Very nice!! The tracks look to be in fantastic shape. Not hard to change to WT...just $$$. Just flip the sprockets over. You have to buy new belting and grousers. Grousers are pretty easy to make for about $30 ea. New grade 8 nylock nuts and bolts are $650. It looks like you have perfect wheel...

I need info on greasing the front idlers on a DMC 1450

Here’s a picture of the idler axles from when I had 1415 apart. The bearings look like they’re out of a Ford Falcon. 2 Timken bearings, races and seal was about $75 per side. Even using the zirc, I think it’s iffy to grease to the inner bearing without taking them apart. I did my undercarriage...

    DMC 1450. New to forum.

I think you’re correct. I’m really not an expert. Before he retired Dr Zaug told me from his records, my D Zero C #1415 was built in ‘80 but wasn’t completed/sold until mid 1981.

I need info on greasing the front idlers on a DMC 1450

Mine looks similar. I had mine all apart recently and had to replace the zircs. I think mine are original. I’ve heard of idelers and wheels with none. It’s hard to know if those are original. Maybe on the inside?

Here’s my plate. Mine was started in ‘80 by Thiokol and sold in ‘81 by DMC.
