This sidewalk Bombardier with a Perkins diesel was acquired over 10 years ago . I took the diff which was already out of the unit , replaced the gearset and put it in my Yellow Muskeg which was under restoration / build at the time. We decided to tackle the sidewalk this fall, the hull was stripped and ground down, crazy rust , especially the light sheet metal, road salt off the driver's boots ate everything around the driver's controls.
The Perkins got a spit shine and the 727 Torqueflite will have to come apart to check, haven't touched one of those since trade school. Plan on stripping a donor sidewalk for suspension / diff today.

SW48 D continued. As soon as we get the hull on wheels , the cab / engine cover needs some attention. The bondo guy on the assembly line was an artist.........

Looks great! I was surprised at the amount of Bondo on mine as well…the only area without rust was under the Bondo….lol. Looking forward to the differential rebuild/install pics.

Finished stripping the donor SW48, the diff and tires are in great shape. No joints in the belts, should be fun to put on , but first have to change all the crossers as someone built up the edge with weld on each one .

I have a set of old joint less belts from the scrapped sidewalk , was planning on swapping crossers and using them. Hopefully they are the same wheelbase, I'll have to check the part number or measure the old hull.

Managed to blast and paint the control valves and trans cooler this week, also fabbed up a lower rad guard, as the original was not worth straightening. Today we stripped out the cab as it is going to need sandblasting in some spots, before the snow flies.

Stripped the skin off the hood this afternoon, a waste of cut off blades, an exercise of rust and bondo . Plan "B" is build a new frame and re skin....... without Bondo. J5 Bombardier

Haven't been doing much to the SW48, but got the air seat cleaned up and working. Great weather today, so plugged some unwanted holes in the cab '

Sprayed some primer on the cab and put it back on the hull for now. It needs a bit of work on the bottom rear, but that's for later . J5 Bombardier :hammer:

Update on the SW48DA , finished installing the air cleaner assembly and mounted a batt tray with disconnect switch on the right deck. The original batt was in the bottom of the hull, pretty hard to get at. Wheel bearings adjusted /caps installed and the track tensioners were put back on. The Perkins has an small oil feed line coming off the left side of the block that lubes the hyd pump drive gears, had to make a new one up...not fun with the hyd pump installed and engine in the tub. My buddy made up a spacer for the new starter, so that was buttoned up a final time after pulling to check the teeth engagement.
The doors were both reskinned, they just need a skim of bondo, found some heavy piano hinges so they can go back on the cab ,which is pretty well finished , a few cracks and a rusted flatbar section replaced that sat on the deck. I'm going to fab a new engine cover after the cab is set back on, get that done and painted, the remaining mechanical stuff can wait for the fall weather.
I'm still on the look out for the wiper motor, arm assembly and linkage for this machine , if anyone has parts.

A little more work on the engine cover yesterday. We need to bent a lip on the roof along both sides, kind of tricky as it is tapered, so the plan is to measure 4 times and bend once....hopefully.

Looking good.

I agree.....Measure several times and then make the move.....It costs far less $$$ and frustration that way...
