For what it’s worth!
Some states don’t title vehicles that are not operated on county, state, fed roads. A bill of sale is all you get when you purchase. Also seems like the older machines weren’t titled, don’t know when that changed.
I live in Montana and had titles created for my 1962 Thiokol and my 1979 SnowMaster. Process only took a month or so and basically not much hassle. I had them shown as snowmobile under vehicle category, so I could get snowmobile stickers for them and not have LEO question my running on snowmobile trails. Also helped with getting liability insurance.

I may have to pick your brain on that process, I wouldn't mind getting a title for my '65 Thiokol 603 but getting useful information from the DMV is usually a fools errand in my experience.

I went to county treasure’s office and got
Title application
Vin number form-vin gets checked by local officer
Insurance bond form

They want copy of bill of sale if you have
Pictures of all four sides and I think interior
Insurance bond- about a hundred bucks from insurance company
Title app fee, permanent registration (because vehicle is more than 15 years old)
Vehicle weight

Probably missed something
Again not to bad a process but that was Beaverhead County

In a Grey Hair moment I forgot!
Print out the pictures you take of the machine. Also print two of the Data Plate. One for application and one for the officer who does VIN inspection. The folks at the treasurers office don’t see too many things with just a 3 or 4 digit serial number and no real vin number.
In my case the officer came to my location to do vin check

Thanks! I've registered several vehicles with 14 digit Japanese VIN's, but have never dealt with a non-road vehicle so I wasn't quite sure what was possible. Sounds like its not a whole lot different than registering a foreign import.
