In between the work cabin, caterpillar and real work I have been repairing the wooden frame around the sliding windows.
The boat is all fiberglass structure except for the window frames around the rear deck.
Normally that area is canvas, the boat came from the north east and it is a popular modification to enclose the rear deck with the sliding windows.
The frame is constructed using Mahogany and it rotted at the corners where the water settles.
It would have been much better if they had used aluminum or Teak, neither would have rotted.
It is now repaired and has 3 coats of paint.
The next move is to recoat the bright work with Sikkins Cetol
The old Cetol is already stripped so now I have to bleach it with teak cleaner and sand it lightly
Then add 3 coats of Cetol and calk.
When its all done, clean it thoroughly and add a for sale sign.
I already had one of the happiest days of a boaters life when I bought it, now the next happiest day will be when I sell it.

A boat is a hole in the water you throw money into!! Ask me why a supposedly sane man, me, spends $2600 for a new outboard to hang on a maybe $500 12 ft boat just because he wanted one with electric start!!

Im a lot better than I used to be, back in the 80's I spent 90% of my money raising hell and chasing women. The rest just waisted
In terms of time and money, there is no sanity connected to what we do and spend on our boats. Ironically, it is what keeps us sane

Tell me about it.
Went to move the boat over today for winter storage. One battery was bloated, shorted internally, taking out the other starting battery.
So two brand be size 27 starting batteries for the Carver this am.
Now she's resting inside.

Out of curiosity, since you're putting it away for the year, why not wait until Spring to get 2 new, fresh batteries?
I think a size 27 is what my tractor takes. Cost me $130 last week for a new one. :(

I had to move the boat to the marina. Did not want to take any chance of the boat engines dying in the river. Current isn't bad right now, and I could drop the anchor, but who needs that hassle?
The old ones last 5 1/2 years. I'm good with that.

Today I was able to get back on the boat, I removed the bow dock lines. Then tied the lines to the windless and the dock poles up higher. That gave me clearance to remove the old cetol under the ropes. Now 100% of the old Cetol is off the bright work. I need to pick up some bronze wool to finish cleaning the hand rail stanchions before bleaching and re coating the bright work.

This time of year is busy. Lol. I pulled my boat from the slip 3 weeks ago and hauled it an hour drive home to put it away for the winter. It might not be a sailboat or carver cruiser but the work is still there. I already pulled the three batteries and stored them in the heated garage. I just need to clean up the water line scum and back it in under the carport on the shop. I love having the carport. It's all along one side of my 36x40 shop. Makes a great storage for the boat in the winter and the snowmobiles in the summer.

But I won't give them up..

Im doing all the repairs and maintenance in preparation to sell it. I need to thin the herd. Seems like all I do is maintenance and never have the time to enjoy the stuff. So far I got rid of a snow cat and 2 Harleys. Now this boat and an antique Chriscraft are on the chopping block. I plan to retire in about 3 more years. At that point I want to be down to the primary residence, the work cabin, primary vehicles, the Dodge 4X4 and a few off road toys.

1947 16' Chriscraft rocket, completely restored. They called it the rocket because at the time it was the worlds fastest production runabout-35 mph. Chrysler crown-6 with velvet drive. Looking for one?

So beautiful, but who knows the upkeep costs.
I think buying that boat was the cheapest expense.

The trailer boats are not too bad, just the bottom calking every couple years. If garage kept, the stay nice for a long time. Once they are restored, if you keep up on the maintenance and don't store them outside its not bad at all. Let them go and you will wish you didn't. The thing about them is its a boat worth under $20,000.00 and when your out, everyone will walk right by $80,000.00 master crafts etc to pay you a compliment.

exactly like that, and in that condition, even has the front and rear flag holders with its original wooden poles with lights.The trailer is even similar. Been sitting covered in the garage for the last 2 seasons.
