Tough Love / True Love

My parents were married for 55 years. One morning, my mom was going downstairs to make dad breakfast, she had a heart attack and fell. My father picked her up as best he could and almost dragged her into the truck. At full speed, without respecting traffic lights, he drove her to the hospital.

When he arrived, unfortunately she was no longer with us.

During the funeral, my father did not speak; his gaze was lost. He hardly cried.

That night, his children joined him. In an atmosphere of pain and nostalgia, we remembered beautiful anecdotes and he asked my brother, a theologian, to tell him where Mom would be at that moment. My brother began to talk about life after death and guesses as to how and where she would be.

My father listened carefully. Suddenly he asked us to take him to the cemetery.
"Dad!" we replied, "it's 11 at night, we can't go to the cemetery right now!"

He raised his voice, and with a glazed look he said: "Don't argue with me, please don't argue with the man...

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table
At which he's fed.
Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for peanuts anyway!
Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.
Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he tries to think.
Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass.
Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.
When he screams and hollers;
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.
Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid.
When he's gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply
The inheritance tax.

Dear friends, we have 1 pistenbully200 stored in our warehouse in Europe, and we intend to ship some of its disassembled parts to China, and we will dispose of the rest of the parts. Obviously, many parts of PB are universal, such as hydraulics. If you happen to need help, I can do it. Only a small amount of money is required. I will send you the parts you need.

The power of CASH

  • 665

copied this from someone else. Very interesting and it really made me stop and think about using cash more often.
I have really never thought of this has anyone else?
Please understand what NOT using cash is doing.
Cash is important.
Why should we pay cash everywhere we can?
with banknotes instead of a credit card?
- I have a $50 banknote in my pocket.
Going to a restaurant and paying for dinner with it. The restaurant owner then uses the bill to pay for the laundry. The laundry owner then uses the bill to pay the barber. The barber will then use the bill for shopping.
After an unlimited number of payments, it will still remain a $50, which has fulfilled its purpose to everyone who used it for payment and the bank has jumped dry from every cash payment transaction made...
- But if I come to a restaurant and pay digitally - Card, and bank fees for my payment transaction charged to the seller are 3%, so around $1.50 and so will the fee $1.50 for each further...

Dish Network HDTV problem - Help?

  • 2,418

I've got Dish Network hooked up to 4 TVs in the house. 3 of the 4 are regular TVs. One is HD. The HDTV uses a special HD receiver.

I got home tonight and sat down in front of the HDTV and got no picture. I checked another TV and it worked fine. So I called Dish Networks help line and ran through all the 10 minutes of B.S. to get to where I needed to be for tech support and found out I needed to "reboot" by receiver.

Fine, did that, now I get about 20 channels. Where are the rest of them?

I re-booted again. No change.

I re-booted yet again. Still no change.

Anyone out there have Dish Network's HDTV receiver who can help me out? Worst case scenario I can go back to the wonderful phone system they have but I'd almost rather pull my own teeth.

Suggestions?

I can not believe how stupid some

people are. The wifey was in a small, as in no dents, and did not disturb the dirt on our truck, accident in November. Yesterday we get a letter from the da's attorney! He did not even check with our insurance company about what would be a settlement for his damaged, OLD car.

The guy was not hurt, he was even directing traffic so that Holly could get back out in the flow when they were done. It is on the accident report that NO ambulance was needed, and minor damage only to his vehicle.

I told my insurance guy we should follow Shakespeares advice, kill the lawyers. Sorry if you are one, but why would someone take a case like this, unless they were going to lie, cheat, steal, or in some other "legal" way get a larger reward than the car is worth.

Help me send the lovely Mrs_B out of town!

OK this is serious.

I need you guys to help me get the lovely Mrs_B out of town for a few weeks. And I might add she is not being very cooperative and we have her sister flying in to stay with us for a few weeks over the holidays.

I happened to stumble across another Snow Trac.
And it is FOR SALE too.
And to make it even better, it is right here in Indiana!!!

Now you are all probably thinking that it can't get any better. But you'd be wrong. The Snow Trac for sale is a rare "open top" version of a Snow Trac, made with a long open cabin, and ideal for hauling either people or equipment. Prior to making its way to Indiana, it spent its working life on the sand in the Texas oil fields as a utility vehicle used to transport repair crews and their tools over the shifting sand.

I'm trying to get photos. I already got the price. Asking price is $3500.

How much does it take to retire?

  • 2,227

I used to wonder about how much it would take in assets to be financially stable enough to "retire." To get to where working was for entertainment value and if I didn't like it--quit with no bad effects on my life style.

After confusing myself over a bunch of either unobtainable or too easily reached goals. I finally dawned on me how to figure out how much money it took and still allowed for inflation and costs of living in different places.

The key is to have the equivalent money to the value of four houses you could own outright (i.e., no loans)--in the place you want to retire at. One house to live in and the other three houses for their income.

This means that where living is inexpensive, you need less money because houses are cheaper too. But if you want to live in New York city, well too bad, it costs a lot more to retire there.

This doesn't mean you have to have four houses, just one you own outright to live in. The equivalent money [at the time you retire] of the...
