When was the last time the post office was closed for three days in a row??? :blahblah:

I don't know but I honestly find it VERY annoying that many government employees didn't have to work yesterday. I wonder how much that cost us taxpayers?
Fly the flag at half-mast and work like the rest of us.

Are you sure it has happened before?
I bet the letter carriers are really LOADED down today.

You Americans are spoiled. Canada Post doesn't deliver on Saturdays and probably took yesterday off because of some obscure French Canadian holiday.

I still pick up my Saturday mail, snicker like a little kid, and tell myself how much I love this country! Sometimes it's the little things that bring happiness!

The Post Office was closed on Sunday, so that day doesn't count. Then they were closed on Monday for the legal Holiday, so that one is normal. Then they closed ALL government offices for President Fords funeral on Tuesday, so they were only closed one day that wasn't normally scheduled. This has happened every time a President dies and the funeral is on a work day. The government always shuts down for any state funeral. Just one more perk of the job, as long as it isn't your funeral that they are closing for.

I figure we are going to get a boat load of mail tomorrow. Monday is a normally heavier than the other days, since that didn't happen Tuesday was going to be even heavier. Well Wednesday was going to be really heavy. Well when I was leaving for work this morning I saw that someone had some anger management issues and took them out on our mailbox. So we probably won't get any mail today either - since the box is laying in the middle of the road.:burp: I'm leaving work a couple of hours early so I can try to get it replaced in daylight. Lets just keep delaying those bills.:yum:

Sorry to hear that.
Happens here as well.
I'd propose you consider getting one of those 20# mailboxes from HD or Lowes.
My neighbor had one and the kids barely scratched the paint while the rest of our mailboxes got shattered. We all have them now. I think the culprits recognize them and know it's going to hurt their arms if they hit it because it hasn't happened since.

This was one of the Rubbermaid or Step 2 ones. It was a big plastic one. I haven't seen too many of those damaged, but whatever they did to ours they took the whole top of it off. Monica woke me up around 11:00 (she hadn't gone to bed yet) and said she heard what sounded like a gun shot. Maybe someone had put fireworks in it or something. All in all, I'm surprised it has made it this long, a little over 7 years. At least they didn't take out the 4x4. I'll have to look for one of those 20# ones.

This is what we had: Step2Mailbox

Jim,
I have the same box and a car/truck/kid ripped the top off of mine as well. Set it back on, 4 drywall screws and back in business.

And how much value do we receive when they are in the office?

With all the mental pressue and physical work that we do you should be paying us twice as much as you are now. Then maybe you would respect us more. We work through rain sleet and snow and no one cares. Yeah we work three times as hard as anyone else but yet we are paid less than anyone else. Your getting by cheap. I dare you to just try and be a postal worker once and see what it is like. Then maybe you wouldn't talk about us just having one extra day off.

DHL, FedEx, and UPS competitively deliver my packages, I can pay my bills online, send letters via email to almost anyone I know, and I can apply for a job and send out my resume on the computer.

The only thing left is junk mail, and Christmas cards.

Oh yeah, and office hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, with an hour for lunch. Can they make it any more inconvenient?

Sounds like the USPS is almost obsolete. :toilet:

Whoa boy - what mental pressure? As for the bad weather, you also work outside in the sun alot, something many of us can't do, but would like to.

Paying you more would not increase my respect of you - heck, I don't even know you! You have to earn my respect.

One more thing, nobody forced you to choose this as your profession. And you are saying that you work three times as hard as non-postal workers? Son, you need perspective.

I saw the Cliff and thought of the Cheers guy, (and saw only 1 post) but I didn't watch the show enough to know what his last name was.

Just today I had to deal with the lighting speed postal clerks at the post office. I had an attitude when I read this.

Ya got me....

BTY I did not mean anything by the question I heard it on the radio this AM and was curious???

Do we really still need Saturday delivery?
There's probably a slight cost savings in there somewhere.

I am surprised Cliff has not voiced an opinion on this???

My heart bleeds for you. Rain, sleet and snow are a common everyday occurrence for a lot of occupations. If you really want to know what hard work is, get a real job, try being a farmer. A lot of people work harder that postal employees and get paid a lot less.:pat:

If you want mental pressure, try raising a couple of kids on a minimum wage job.

Couldn't do that. After looking last night, they actually "blew" my mailbox up.:yum: :pat: Monica found a cigarette lighter beside the mailbox and there was black soot all over the shrapnel. It blew the handle that was used to open the door back across the road and about 25 feet up our driveway. Don't know what happened to the door though, it is gone.:burp: Monica picked up a cheapy plastic one last night, figure it'll be ball batted pretty quick.
