That picture just made no sense to me whatsoever until I googled it and saw a larger version of it. I guess it is for 22 caliber and uses an oil filter. Interesting.

So someone would want to do that because he wants to go to prison?

I think the idea is that it is only illegal due to the sum of its parts. Once off the rifle, it is only a few bushings or whatever you call those things and a standard oil filter. I have no need of such, just making an observation. I did not study it on the web site.

Yup cool and cheap but if you "buy" one you still need to go through a class 3 dealer. Heres a vid with a little larger caliber on full auto at the 2:48 mark.

I don't see how it can be legal. All 'parts' of a silencer are regulated.

I've seen them made out of pvc pipe, plastic coke bottles as well as professional machined setups. There are a number of how to videos on youtube on building one. My advise though is don't get caught with it and a gun at the same time.

It is regulated MD.
American Specialty Ammo is selling a registered NFA suppressor for $55 (+ $200 tax stamp) that is nothing more than an adapter to attach a car oil filter to a 1/2-28 threaded barrel. The first bullet punches a hole in the end of the oil filter.

I'll be changing the oil in my 250 shortly and can probably save you the $55.00.

Just stick a pipe threader on the end of your sporter barrel and you are good to go without the adapter!

This guy was originally selling these things as "solvent traps" for cleaning but I guess the ATF had a little talk with him.

There is a good video on the internet about how to make improvised silencers out of PVC pipe and other materials. They even did sound testing. You can get better sound reduction from most of the improvised designs than you can from most of the commercial silencers. Of course it is illegal to make them but from an educational perspective it is interesting.

Solvent traps. I like that. I hope oil filters are still legal to own after this guy made these.

We were always taught the proper disposal of used oil filters was to put holes in them, then crush them flat in a press over a containment drain into a used oil reservoir.

This would just save a step in the process.........and as a bonus:

Less noise pollution

No oil contamination pollution of groundwater

Going green is the best of both........a win win.......how could it possibly be illegal to save the planet ?
