Once upon a time trees were huge, horses were strong and people were small, but brave. Having defeated all the dragons, people decided to compete with huge trees. They smithed a long saw to conquer a sequoia, also known as mammoth tree. A lot of courageous sawers perished under the trees...

The trees were so big that you could easily make the mobile office of the trunk.

Hey Cowboy,

Ever cut some big wood? what was the biggest stump you ever tackled

Not what I would consider being big compared to what some areas heve . but I did have to take a 150 year old black walnut down a couple of years ago thats was 6 foot across . trees dont get much bigger then that around here .

How bout you SD .

It's always cool when you find one of these big stumps out in the woods. I'm so fat and doughy I couldn't imagine working a saw through some of those giants.

I think the biggest tree I've ever fallen with an ax couldn't have been more than 12 inches.

I feel like such a wuss.

I did some volunteer work for the girl scouts several years ago and removed several hazard trees at a summer camp. There was one there with Douglas Fir there with a 5 foot butt and about 150 feet tall. it was quite a leaner, but jacked over just fine

Yep I figgered Ya had some tall ones up there , The one I took down was only cuz I had to it had been hit by lightning & was far to dangerous to leave standing . But I doubt it was much over 40 or 45 foot tall before the hit . A 150 footer would scare the hell outa me .

Cool pics! Somewhere in my photo albums, I have a picture of my grandfather working his two oxen skidding a tree about the size of some of the bigger ones in those pictures. Grampa said that in a good day, they could haul three maybe four of the trees out after cutting them down.

I don't understand the pictures of 2 or 4 horses in front of the piles of logs. Does anyone think 2 or 4 horses could pull that much weight?
