Just finished sighting in a new scope, best group I got was 7/16ths of an inch. The gun is a custom 6.5 Grendel caliber AR15, Alexander Arms factory lower with a Timney Trigger system replacing the factory trigger. Custom built upper. The ammo was WOLF GOLD 120grain MTP. Scope is a 4-16x Millett. All groups were 5 shots, best group I had was just under 1/2".

Man that is a tight group to say the least. Looks like a great setup. I'm looking at this one for my PT92 in the near future. This is a buddies gun in stainless while mine is all black. Total cost with mount and scope is about $60 bucks giver or take.

Seems to be a trend to put optics on top of handguns.
One of the more interesting versions I've seen actually mounts the optic right on top of the slide. I guess those little red dots can take a beating because they literally slide out the rear sight and mount the optic to them. I'm intrigued. Is that gun set up for USPSA competitions?

Now with the .22 LR setup it might be fun to shoot vermin with.

Damn that is good shooting at 70 yards regardless, I'm impressed.

This rifle is pretty amazing. It started as a factory Alexander Arms 6.5 Grendel lower, which had the fire control group stripped out and replaced with a Timney target trigger. Everything else is pretty much custom assembled. Its got enough weight to keep it steady in the bag so as long as you can control your breathing the gun pretty much hits what you point it at.
This was the first time using this particular scope.

Don't know jack about rifles but do have a lot of experience with hand guns. At any rate no matter how you cut it that scope setup works.

While this is not my best group, it is my favorite, if only because it sends a message that all parents in the USA have, at one time or another, have wanted to send.
That is, by the way, 5 shots into 4 holes. The hole just above the center is a double hole, you'll notice its a bit elongated/irregular from 2 bullet strikes.

![]() ![]() I didn't notice the target other than the grouping but not having kids around young enough for Barney I still can appreciate the sentiments.

Cowboy, I have some you might like but I can't post them here or I would likely get banned. They are a little rough and racist for some folks.

MD,
So what do you think of the Millet scope? I wasn't aware they had scopes nowdays.... Do they make their own, or do they sub contract with some one? What other scopes compete at the price point of the Millet? I really like the ruggedness of there all steel rings, just hadn't realized they are into optics to. Nice shooting by the way. The 6.5 Grendel is an intreresting round in the AR platform. Makes alot of sence for a mid bore round. Regards, Kirk |

We just had about a half a dozen professional Brazilian soccer players staying with us for the last week while they put on a week long clinic my youngest daughter attended. We didn't have to pay tuition if we provided room and board for the team. Great group of guys and very well mannered.
What ties this to shooting is that they all wanted to go out to my range and shoot. Get this; it's mandatory for them to serve in the Brazilian military and they all are still in the "Reserves", but not one of them has ever handled or fired a firearm! They wanted lessons on shooting and loved shooting. However, they about dropped their jaws to the ground when I explained to them how much ammo costs. They thought .308 rounds would be a penny or two a shot. Anyway, I thought it interesting that the Brazilian military doesn't have their troops handle firearms until they go active.

I have 3 of them on various rifles and the reason I bought this one is because the other two impressed me. I really don't have much experience with this one yet, first time using it was yesterday. But so far I'm happy. Oh if only that were true! The Wolf Gold 120 grain MTP that I shot these groups with is cheap 6.5 Grendel ammo and costs about 75-80 cents a shot. Target grade stuff is running $1.15 to $1.50 a shot depending on bullet choice. The cheapest stuff out there is a Wolf round, if you can find it, runs about 60+ cents, I got a thousand rounds at 50-cents a piece but haven't seen it at that price since Obama got in office.

I was out at a public range in Winamac, IN today and shot some groups at the 200 yard range. First shots were over the top of the paper! Got it dialed in and started printing on the paper, got several groups in the 4" to 5" range.
Then I got this one that made me happy. It's at right about a 1" spread, all 3 rounds are cut by a 25-cent piece on the target to give you an idea of the group. I don't consider myself a rifleman, its something I'd like to improve my skills with and am not particularly consistent. ![]() ![]()

Millett is now made and warrantied by Bushnell. When they first took over there were alot of returns, from what I heard and read. It seems that they have now got the quality back up to where it should be, given that Bushnell has long been a leading manufacturer of a decent quality optic. I've got some friends that love their Millett TRS scopes. I know some guys that run Millett DMS 1-4's on their AR's and they seem to be pretty good as well. Well as long as you don't have a 1st gen DMS anyways, some type of fungal problem on the interior of the optic.
That's a nice stick and nice shooting. I would recommend that if your going to shoot factory ammo, at longer distances anyhow, that you try the Hornady Amax 123gr or get some AA ammo. I think AA loads a Lapua bullet and their brass is made by Lapua. I've been running Hornady brass, because it's $30-$40 cheaper then Lapua. Though I haven't fired it but once so far, it seems to be very accurate and I don't see any damage to the brass. I'm still trying to figure out the perfect load for my Grendel, but it is a very accurate rifle. Matter of fact, I'm going to go to the range here shortly and see how my current loads turn out. Loading 120gr Nosler ballistic tips over 26gr of Varget and over 26gr of Hogdon H335. I seated both recipes at 2.20" AOL and we'll see what happens. Anyhow, here's a pic of my rifle. AA upper, Sabre 18" matching barrel/bolt, Sabre Gill Brake, Bushmaster carrier, Hogue 12" round free float tube, Spike's lower, RRA 2 stage, CAA sniper stock, Vortex Viper 6.5-20X44 Mildot, etc. It's been sub moa with all my handloads and it really loves the Hornday factory 123gr Amax's. I first started sighting it in at 50yds to get the scope dialed in and shot about 12rds all in on ragged hole with the factory Hornady ammo! Well I guess I'll have to take some more pics. All I have are the ones from when I first built the rifle and none of them have the optic and all the upgrades that have been installed since I first built it. Oh well, maybe I can post pics of targets too! Slick stick you got and I would suggest to grease that wheel if that's what your getting for Easter! |
