Gone But Not Forgotten
Hi All ,
I usually keep my private affairs PRIVATE, but something I have set up is making a big difference to some school children in Panama .
As a lot of you know, I live part time in Panama on a small island on the Caribbean side and try to teach "construction trade technology" to the local Indians when ever I am there . The average wage is a $1 an hour for simple manual labor ,but a skilled laborer can get up to $25 a day . It makes a big difference in their day to day lives .The area is growing rapidly but there is still a huge unemployment rate . They do not have social welfare programs .
With my father being ill ,I have not been able to go down in quite awhile so I came up with another way to help .
I have started a program to pay for the cost of sending a child to school for one year . It covers the school uniform, shoes, schools supplies ,and tution fee's for one full year . The cost is $82 per year per student .
These are students who "WANT" to go to school , but their families do not have the finances to send them . We try to help returning students since they have already made a committment to learn . They all know the importance of a good education .
In return I get a history of the student, progress report or drawing from the student and a warm feeling inside .In return when I am in Panama, you are welcome to come down and spend a day or two at my place and see how your donation is helping .
All money goes to the Student and none is held out for management expenses .
I have my secretary in Panama , who is also a teacher , hand deliver the supplies to the students and signs them up for school .
So... I do not try to "hard sell" anybody , but if anyone wants to help just PM me and I can supply you with the information .
Thanks and I hope I am not being too forward .
