Snowmobile Snowcoach 4T Trackmaster
Vehicle Description
This is approximately a 1958 "Snow Cat" Serial # 57 made by Utah scientific research foundation. In running order.
The wooden slats on track are still original. I purchased from a person who had tried to redo the cleats and did not do a good job. The rubber is still good. Rubber belting is still in very good shape. Tracks are usable well enough to move around. But cleats need rebuilding. All the rest of this coach works quite well. Including transmission , clutch etc. The engine is a Ford 223 ,OHV 6 cylinder, This machine would be great to add to someones collection of antique snowmobiles.
The body of the cat is made of aluminum and there is NO rust in this vehicle anywhere. I have the original builders blueprints. Including every nut bolt and rivet. from the original plans. ALL the paperwork including the manual which lists every part number in it. Comes with all service record info including all previous owners for the last 50 years. Wouldn't you like to own this piece of history for the next 50?
This vehicle is 8 feet wide and will fit on most flatbed trailers and is very light for its size

Hmmm... "This machine would be great to add to someones collection of antique snowmobiles." What a weird type of collection/hobby to have! Who the heck would collect such beasts??? ;)

Somebody really should help this unit celebrate its 50th birthday. Looks like it has potential.:whistling: I can't imagine anyone in this forum being interested.

Oh, I saw that, but that one is too far removed from the DNA... you can see it all coming together with the 4VS as the first Trackmaster. I look at the 4VS as the true first prototype that 'stuck to the wall' like a good pasta. ;) The predecessors to the 4V were more concept/experimental vehicles pieced together... and you can even see some of that 'piecing' in the 4V... but it really started to hum when the 4T hit...and then shear perfection came with the 6-series. Such a beautiful evolution up to running cat at 35 MPH with a nice drop-center grouser...and then it all went to hell with the phat cat spryte back down to phat feet and 15 MPH. ;) Just kidding... I know...float! Then it really turned 'Ford Taurus' levels of fun with the onset of LMC/DMC designs... blah...such lovely wedge designs of the 1500/1800..not that the Taurus shares the shapes (it's like a bar of soap)...but just about as exciting. OK, one exception is the LMC-1200... that's a really beefy nice machine...we've seen some very nice one's on the forum.
I do like the fun of the wooden grouser on the 4V-series. There was one at Safety for the longest time...who knows...maybe this is it...have to dig through the pictoral library.
But $6500 for that other is too high although there are deep-pocket guys on the forum that may splash out that kind of cash... not Mainer.

The safetyone unit had a price of $4995. That means that it should have sold for $2500-3000 for normal human beings not living in Safety One price world. I will refresh folks memory with the 1201 spryte that came in, they blasted it with a coat of red (including Thiokol badge), and shoved it out the door...I think they sold it for double or something nutty.

Mainer, I think I know which cat you are speaking of and yes it is definitely RED and sold for around 25,000.00 I am pretty sure a work "friend" of mine bought it and are still repairing it . Hopefully they will have it running by next season. Buying with out actually looking in person can sometimes come to haunt you later. Just my thoughts!!

Yup! People take note on that one! I've had plenty of conversations with folks around the industry... and the guys on this forum are far more gentlemanly to talk smack given they are in the business... but I'm just conveying info given to me and I'm not in the business.
That's why I say you buy a cat from Boggie and you get a great rig. (His ego is already big enough so if cornered, someone else wrote this by stealing my password... and no one should buy any Trackmasters/600's from Boggie because he cuts corners on all those that he sells of course:whistling:...those should just go to the Mainer). From what I've gathered, many of the dealers that sell cats don't go through them in detail...Peterson's does go through them though and do a fantastic job. My point is that you can buy a cat for half the price by buying private and you don't take any more risk cuz many of these commercial guys just buy and drop them on their lots with little inspection/work.
Take Snow Ops Spryte or 2Track's Spryte...both bargain deals...but people want to buy from a 'dealer' cuz they like to grab their ankles! Oh, no, sorry, cuz they like to get that professional 'caring' touch. :reacharou How about those bargain deal track jacks for $400 a pop!?!? They got special professional excellence in 'em. :w00t2:

I'd not want to be accused of adding to Boggie's ego :good:, but I've certainly been pleased with my snowcat and his follow-up help. (Need we watch for any exploding heads near Boggie's office?)

Yea, unfortunately it's sort of too late... there have been some reports of something that was first thought to be a hot-air balloon over Brainerd... yea... turned out to be yet another Big-Boggie... don't get me wrong, he's not filled with hot-air... just ego-gas which also happens to be lighter than air and helps him soar up high to spot more cats for sale and then he swoops in. Just make sure you never *sell* him a machine... you may end up paying him to take your machine off your hands... he has some weird voodoo mind spell thing he does that eventually wears off... starts by drinking this potion called Heineken. ;) That's why it's always best to sell your cats (at least Trackmasters) in Maine. ;)

I just realized...that interior brown is shag carpet! Aaaaah! I kept looking at it thinking it had to be chip board or something ... cuz it certainly couldnt be carpet, right???? Wrong!

I just relized that this thing has the original plans and manuals!!! and NO RESERVE with no bids!

If anybody is interested in this please PM me, if not I may bid on it...... what a piece of history

Documents are much more interesting than the snowcat... maybe he'll sell those seperately as I think only a handful of people actually care about the blueprints... yea, nice to have, but I mean folks that actually would be excited to have them rather than just something that 'goes with it'. I'll check.

I have received a PM so hopefully this "anonymous" member will win it and share the blueprints and manuals with us!
I am no longer bidding....... hopefully the membership here doesn't run the price up now and miss out on the manuals and blueprint???
What was I thinking anyway..... a trackmaster the spelling is all wrong should be trac master....... almost lost focus over a piece of history and a misspelled word ......hehehe

seller doesn't seem to be answering questions.
I think he's confusing the relatively well-detailed manuals provided with these units back in the day with 'blue prints'.

ok...got a response... as thought, it is a model 4V not a 4T. The 4T is the subsequent state in the evolutionary process... already documented on the forum. He has some blue prints... mainly manuals but interesting that it comes with something more than just the manuals. Good luck to y'all bidders.

Mainer, quit screwing around and buy that for your collection If you do sometime in the future you'll be glad you did!

Nope. Not I. I saw the bidding start to fly up and if I were West coast I'd be game for playing a bit but the 4V is really something just for historical purposes, even though there are a couple of folks around that use them for occassional outings... and I really don't like the looks so it would be an exeption-purpose if it were a good deal... and $4100 is not a good deal for a 4V (seller acknowledged it's a 4V, not a 4T), with bad grousers. But, it could make someone a very happy camper for the occassional outing...and for those folk it's easily worth $4100 but they aren't buying it for historical purpose.

LOL - I saw those track jacks on ebay - I told Brian he needed to take a close look at the pics because I think he can make them - he needs one badly! The huge c-clamp just doesn't do the job very well! LOL!
