Default I'm such a proud dad

Katelyn and I went out this afternoon to shoot her little .22 Savage Cub. I decided to go back to the house and get my Browning .22 and decided to bring out the Mini 14. I tried to get her to shoot it and she didn't want anything to do with it. I shot a few rounds and then found a rock about 8 inches in diameter, set it on a stump and atomized it. Before the cloud of dust had settled she was saying "sweet, can I try?" Needless to say, she is hooked on the Mini.

Good job Brents! She looks real comfortable with the rifle. That's a good thing

I had her start shooting lefty. She hits what she aims at. We bought one of those targets that flip over and she loves that.

Nothing wrong with that. My son and I both are ambidextrous. He writes left handed, throws a baseball right handed and bats left or right.

I write, right handed but do a lot of other things such as eat with my left hand.

Funny how blowing something to smithereens can have that effect

Her first round down range was a miss. After some of the shoots she was making with the Savage, I was a little disappointed. I didn't say anything, I knew she was a little nervous thinking maybe the Mini was going to kick. After she missed, she said "Oops, I missed, you know Dad, this thing really doesn't kick". She atomized it on the next shot. Then we had to go find some more rocks.

I did take the opportunity to show her how close in size the bullets of the .22 and .223 were. After the rock shooting I made it clear to her that if that tiny bullet can do that to a rock, what it could do to a person. Every outing is fun and educational.

This morning before school she was verifying that the rifle was a Ruger Mini 14. She was going to rub some little boy's noses in the fact that she was shooting one.

That's great, glad she is enjoying herself.

I've got plenty, just bring your truck! This land has been under cultivation for over 100 years and rocks still pop up every time I plow.

The wood will be staying on the Mini and the black will stay on my AR. She had a shot at a pink rifle when I bought the Savage. She didn't want pink.

Tapco makes a 6 position replacement stock for the mini - might make it a bit more comfortable for the girl to shoot it - and would adjust back out to your pull length in a heartbeat, as well.

No, she is going to have stick with her little .22 Savage for a while. The Mini will be an occasional thing for her. I want her to refine her skills and learn patience with that bolt action .22.
