Gov. Jerry Brown Blasts California Taxpayers As 'Freeloaders'

At an event last week in Orange Country, California, that state's governor, Democrat Jerry Brown, blasted law-abiding taxpayers as "freeloaders." The context involves Brown's recent $52 billion tax hike, which includes a direct attack on the middle and working class through a 12 cent increase in the gas tax, which is already the 7th highest in the country, and an annual $50 increase (that will continue to increase based on the rate of inflation) in the vehicle registration fee.
"The freeloaders — I've had enough of them. … They have a president that doesn't tell the truth and they’re following suit," Brown said during a speech at an event aimed to defend a Democrat lawmaker facing a recall effort over the tax hike.
The tax increase was jammed through by Brown and the Democrats' supermajority in the state legislature. Republican lawmakers are absolutely helpless in the former-Golden State. They do not even have enough members to launch a filibuster. Democrats can pass whatever they like, and they like tax increases on the middle class.
For his part — in a state that wastes untold billions welcoming and harboring illegal aliens, in a state with only 12% of the nation's residents but 34% of the nation's welfare recipients, in a state that is third in a nation of 50 in per-capita spending on welfare — Jerry Brown told the truth about the contempt Democrats and the Left-at-large feel towards everyday people.
Democrats despise the average American; the working class, the middle class, the self-sufficient man who keeps his head down, follows the rules, loves his family and quietly lives his own life.
Democrats only love those who can do things for them: The super-wealthy and powerful who can contribute to their campaigns, or those in Hollywood and Silicon Valley who can further "the cause" through various types of social justice campaigns. And of course they love the underclass, the poor, the illegal — those who empower the Almighty State into a perpetual motion machine — which is why every Democrat policy is designed to keep them dependent.
Already these California "freeloaders" are funding a state government bloated beyond belief, already these "freeloaders" are battered and punished with endless taxes, hidden taxes, sales taxes, fines, fees, and insipid environmental regulations that increase the cost of everything, most especially housing; already these "freeloaders" are funding a corrupt welfare state and public unions that turn around and use those very same tax dollars to fund Democrat campaigns …
Nevertheless, those of us who just want to mind our own business and enjoy the quiet fruits of our hard work in a free country — our families, our church, our charcoal grills, our rec rooms, campers, boats and widescreen TVs — and even though we pay most of this country's taxes and fight all the wars, we are the "freeloaders," the bad guys, the planet-killers, the selfish and greedy.
