Anyone else getting them or texts more than usual?
I have been.
Yesterday 2 from California and 2 from Maryland.
They're claims of "help" relating to coronavirus.
I'm not stupid enough to click on the link that comes with the texts messages.
I've been blocking, then deleting.

This is an example of what some may be receiving, from Ohio Going Blue law enforcement.

No texts but one or two phone calls a day and half a dozen or so emails with offers for all kinds of personal protection stuff like masks . . .

I've been getting a number of calls from unknown callers.
I just don't answer them.
I'm about to turn my unknown caller block back on.

I had a real shitstorm yesterday.

An acquaintance who does a shuttle service and meets many people (saves their numbers) very irresponsibly, sent a mass text out inviting everyone to a crypto currency site.
There may have been over 100 people who all received the text as a group.

My computer is linked with my phone, so if I receive at call or text at one, it also goes to the other.
Both my phone and my computer blew up.

I received the initial message, and a whole lot of others who got it weren't happy about being spammed by this guy, and started texting STOP!
To which others who also received the stop message began with responding with messages of their own; it's not me, I didn't do it, Stop!!, you stop!, no, you stop!, I'm gonna keep sending stop for an hour until this stops!, fuck you, who is this?, Stop sending me this......

This shitstorm went on for about 5 hours and showed no signs of slowing down.

There is no function on at least an iphone to be removed from a group chat.

I finally had to sit down, and block/delete each phone number in the entire group.
It took me about an hour.

I've been blocking telemarketer calls for over a year and it seems to slow them down a lot. The extended warranty ones must have thousands of ph #s!!

My Dad passed in 1981. Since I’ve been home he’s received two letters about extending his car warranty :(

I get at least three calls a day from Jill, or Robin, or Sally from the "gift" department. Whatever that is.

Lately I've gotten daily calls asking me if I "can hear them okay" from hearing aid companies. I think my wife puts them up to it. Nothing wrong with my hearing system. After years of programing, it deletes unwanted voice contact just fine. Perfect.

I also get calls from escort services, but that's a whole nuther matter.

We get the scam calls from the cra (Canadian version of irs) saying they are going to take legal action on us if we don't send money asap. Little do they know my wife works for the cra.

A friends wife got the IRS scam call with a threat to have the sheriff arrest them immediately. She said let me put my husband on and you won't have to call the sheriff because he's a county deputy. pause----- click!!

We have an Xfinity land line. They block robo calls after one ring, even the ones that spoof the caller ID. Last night we got a call with a local number we did not recognize (Caller ID comes up on the TV) and after one ring, poof gone.

We never answer the phone unless we recognize the number.

It really annoys me that the government can't put a stop to those calls, fail to secure the borders and a lot of other things but they want to control our guns!

Anyway, when I get those calls, I answer in a loud voice,
"OFFICER JOHNSON. HOMOCIDE DEVISION! ARE YOU REPORTING A HOMOCIDE. IF NOT YOU ARE IN VIOLATION OF THE LAW, ACCORDING TO SECTION 2787297292729365, PARGRAPH 377849461099812, SENTENCE 3487398749374."

Sometimes when I'm bored I answer with:" OK, the job's done, the bodies won't be found so wire the remainder to that offshore account". I imagine someday the FBI will knock on my door.

so were kind of locked down and robo calls just dropped off. so if a stay at home lock down can stop the calls why can't it be done anytime? i feel someone is lying to us.

Not only the calls but spam in general. On Doc’s forums the spammer attempts have dropped way off. I’ noticed the same on other forums. I have a small web hosting business. Logged on to the mail server few days ago and the spam box was almost empty instead of almost full as I expected.

I have a theory.

Most of these folks are overseas and the countries trying to control their citizens internet content are also hotbeds of internet fraud. See where I’m going? :bolt:

So far I have one silver lining in this cloud. For over a year I've had a character sending me emails and they are trapped in my spam filter saying he has video of me visiting porn sites and he has my password to a few unimportant sites. If I don't send him anywhere from $500 to $2000 in bitcoin he'll expose me to all my friends. All this time I just kept deleting them. The emails quit coming during this pandemic so I'm hoping the virus killed him.

I've gotten those too. Saying they know my Facebook password and email password and if I don't send them $1500 they will begin posting things on my page. Click...delete.

I recently read about a new or up and coming app called "do not pay".

Supposedly, it will check to make sure you're on the do not call list, then capture the number.
They provide you a virtual credit card to pay the scammers with.
When the scammers go to use the CC, it turns around and automatically begins a lawsuit against them, generating the case and all the paperwork and filing.

They say a person stands to make as much as $3000 per call/violation.

Is it true, I don't know, I just read it on the internet.

Here's a similar article I found.
