A group of Senate Democrats is backing a bill to make it easier for the Federal Communications Commission to go after robocall scammers, The Hill reported.

The Robocall Enforcement Enhancement Act of 2018, introduced Tuesday by Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, would extend the statute of limitations for violations of robocall rules from one year to three years, The Hill reported.

It would also lengthen the statute of limitations for "spoofing" violations — masking the origin of calls with fake caller ID information — from two years to three years.

“If there is one thing Americans can agree on, it’s that robocalls often cross the line,” Schatz, the top Democrat on the Senate Commerce Committee’s subcommittee on communications, said in a statement.

“With this bill, the FCC will have the time and authority it needs to keep abusive robocalls in check.”

The bill is also being co-sponsored by the rest of the Democrats on the subcommittee.

On Wednesday, the alleged “face” of unwanted robocalls, Adrian Abramovich, told a Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation the technology to start a large autodial campaign is easy to use and can be set up by “anyone” from a home office, ABC News reported.

Abramovich, who was appearing before the committee under subpoena, is facing a record $122 million FCC fine for allegedly making almost 100 million spoofed robocalls over three months.

Smoke and Mirrors,.......... the FCC is a toothless tiger that can't even enforce domestic violations.

Most of these calls originate from other countries (or soon will).

That’s true and many of them do a good job of masking their origin.

WTF is Robocall scammers?

Annoying automated phone calls. Automated Robot calls

We get 15 or 20 a day. My call blocker stops a lot of them but some get through because the scammers are now changing to new numbers every day

They also use the no call list as a source of valid numbers.

I can't help it. This sounds so much like Governor LePetomane's line about "the treatment the insane gambler" in Blazing Saddles!
