Wow. A paper mill in Maine exploded around lunch time today. All workers accounted for apparently. There's a video of the explosion at each link.

Paper mills were my least favorite places to work in. They were always a last resort for me. The one in Ticonderoga, NY really sucked.

When I quit school at 17, I went to work in a paper mill for 7 years before I got smart and went back to university.

Smart move.

I did contract work in paper mills, not working for the paper mill directly.

I hated the mills. Once, I was working in a HV switchgear making up potheads on the cables when I looked down and this black liquid was coming into the gear room from under the door. It was a caustic liquid they used, I guess to break down the wood fibers. They called it black liquor. The mill workers claimed it would eat your leather soles on your boots. Friggin nasty shit I will tell you that. It was no big deal to the mill workers, they got it cleaned right up and down the drains it went to God only knows where. :th_lmao:

Probably straight in to the river it was sitting next to.

At the one I worked at, before every Christmas we used to make colored paper, red, blue, green and yellow, any color the customer wanted. The River Don just outside would run like a freekin' rainbow. That was back in the day before the Pollution Police came on the scene.

Did the price of toilet paper in the North East just double because of this incident?
