When do you buy your Christmas tree?

Last couple of weeks ignored what I thought could be Christmas trees on cars on the highway (no way they could be Christmas trees this early).

Well, pulled into a gas station on the way from work and two cars at the station with Christmas trees on them.

Leads me to the question, if you get a live Christmas tree, when you you normally get it for the Christmas holidays?

For myself, now after having a "life" where I have a home to bring a tree to, usually two weeks before the holidays.

On a side note, remember when radio stations played Christmas music the day after Thanksgiving, now have heard Christmas music for the last week!

Please keep in mind, I realize if you celebrate Christmas, Jesus is the reason for the holiday, just seems that each year passing marketing and buying is becoming the reason for the holiday.

We start decorating our house on Friday.

My wife is very particular about the holidays. Halloween decorations go up in mid-October and stay up until the first weekend in November. Thanksgiving decorations go up the first weekend in November and come down Friday after Thanksgiving, and are replaced by Christmas decor. The Christmas stuff comes down right around the first of the year (depending on if we are in town or out, as well as weather for the outdoor decorations). She has seasonal changes in dishes, tablecloths, flowers, etc and the Christmas dishes will only be displayed when the house is decorated for the Christmas season. Currently we are using our "fall" dishes. She has spring dishes, etc. The Christmas decorations take about 10 days to complete so our house is decked out for just about 3 weeks.

To me there is NO REASON other than commercialism to extend the Christmas season earlier and earlier. It is simply becoming a shopping related holiday. We consider Christmas a religious season and try to use it to practice and teach our daughter the values of charity, personal reflection, and prayer. I understand that Wal-Mart and other stores just want to grab the profit dollars, but it doesn't mean I have to respect them for what they are doing to the holidays.

I'm putting it off as long as possible. With two little girls the Christmas hype started almost immediately after Halloween.

Daily hand turkeys have managed to get only slight interest in Thanksgiving (of course I'm Canadian so I know nothing about this crazy holiday, as the real Thanksgiving happens before Halloween).

The commercialization of Christmas has gotten out of control.

Use to buy out-of-state (maybe Canadian) cut trees. Then price went out of sight. Price today????????

Then bought local fresh cut. Needles all over floor. Usually bare before New Years.

15 years ago. Bought quality artificial. Still use it. Best thing. Can't tell from real, perfect shape, no needles, no sap, no fire hazard, no trash.

We bought our first artificial tree about 34 years ago. Would still be using it now, but the CEO decided she didn't like it any more and bought another a last year. Not sure we got our money's worth out of the first one.

Who was it that made the comment about going out in the spirit of Christmas and killing a tree?

"Thanksgiving" can be celebrated on any day, or numerous days.

America's "Thanksgiving" holiday tranverses all races, religions, and ethic backgrounds.

You could be thankful for not paying 50% Canadian income tax, or having the right to own a gun, or just because you woke up this morning.

Bpught my tree about 10 years ago. It lives in a box in the basement. Why kill a real one when you can have a plastic one with no mess...

Working woman I know just how you feel, I am the same. I dislike Christmas now, I wasn't that keen before, but I do try to decorate the house with lights around Christmas time as I like lights. My Christmas tree is artificial and lives in the hall, it is put on when I feel like it and it doesn't have to be Christmas. I also have a reindeer who lives on a trunk in the hall, he too is put on when I feel like it.
