Hope to have this one ready for Mt Hood next year. That's Bill Guthrie in the driver's seat in May 2012. Sorry he is gone.

That looks like the clutch access cover laying there which I think goes on the bottom of bellhousing.

That would make sense. When I first looked at it I was thinking it was built into floor pan there, but couldn't come up with any idea of what purpose it would serve. But flip it upside down . . .:hammer:

Coming along nicely. I can't believe they would put all the time into this one and the '58 423 went back like all before it. This & the narrow 443 may be my favorite / most anticipated builds!

Looks great... as usual !
I have a couple questions - what are the U-bolts in the rear crossmember for?
I was looking at that crossmember and the battery tray in the earlier pics and wondering how you decide between keeping it original and maintaining structural/ mechanical integrity? My initial reaction would have been to fire up a torch/ grinder and replace those two items. With your experience in veteran cars you probably have had to deal with this ?

rear u bolts are for tow ropes, originally they were weld in, but first the belly pan was installed, at this point i could write a book about all the things you need think and do, the best answer was to make them removable so painting could be done correctly and it also got a great fit for the rear panel,

any and all weak metal parts are repaired and or replaced, correctness, strength, authentic, and function are considered while doing a restoration, in the end both items were taken care of. thank you
