Snow Trac 1964 finally brought home

TorNorway

Here is my Snow Trac 1964, Serialnumber 431.
I had to drive forward an backwards 10 times to turn it 90 degrees.
So the first thing to do, change variatorbelt, bearings, polish both pulleys,
The old variator belt was just 21mm wide, and the new one I bought from Christer Morlind is 45mm wide, quite a difference:17875:

Then I tried to fit the new variator belt, happend a little accident the support for the adjustment arm on the left hand pulley broke and almost hit me right between my eyes:pat:
This was a bit of a crisis because i had invited some friends to a little trip just a few days later, so i had 2 choices:

1: wait to after easter and order a new one from sweden(if they even can provide it)

2: Make one my self:coolshade

I ended up with choice number 2!!

This old bracet was made of cast aluminium, and probably had an old crack. I took some iron and welded a new one.

So this is how it turned out, looks quite well actually:applause:
And i had a dramatical inprovment of turning radius.
So i could take my first trip. Was quite a fun ride, but i realize that i must overhaul the engine, this summer.

That is probably NOT a miliatry model, the military models that I have seen did not have the short cab but rather had an open back with a canvas tent covering the entire rear area. The 2 passenger short cab model was available but is a bit less common the 7 passenger full cab version.

Nice to see you got it home! Last time you wrote you said it would be a while before you could get it.

Have fun with it, and we are here to answer any questions you have. I'm sure someone here has the answers.

Did you get the disk I mailed you that has the manuals on it?

Yes Bob i got the manuals, thanks:thumb: they have helped me a lot!!

This wall you see behind driverseat is not original, just a bit of plexiglas some previous owner has mounted, to keep some of the heat in the cabin.

We need more photos!!!

If that wall is not original, then other parts of the cabin may not be original either. If that is the case, then you may have a military version. You do not have the military front hitch, and I don't see the helicopter lift points on your Snow Trac either, those were on SOME of the military Snow Tracs. I still suspect yours in not military, but perhaps if you could post many more photos then we could figure it out.

I'm glad the disk arrived safely. It should help you sort out many things.

On the rear end of mine snow trac i can see that it is an NATO Hook, do anyone else have these??

Maybe Lyndon would have this information?

That hook on the back is what we call a pintle hitch, it seems to have been pretty much a standard item on many non-military Snow Tracs.

There is a special front hitch that I have only seen on military Snow Tracs, yours does not have that special front hitch.

As for the cab, I strongly suspect that yours originally had a canvas top over a folding steel frame. I have an entire thread with photos of a canvas topped Snow Trac; below are three of my photos from the Reme Museum British Commando Snow Trac that is located in England.
