:tiphat: Hi all,

I've just joined today and are at present trying to find a Snow trac in the UK. I would like to know what price i am likely to pay for a running Snow trac that may need tidying etc. What cant be found for the vehicle now? will i find a UK Snow trac club in the UK? I intend setting up a UK club (That is, if there is not one up and running already!!) if i get a snow trac so we can start to go to reallys and meet at national events around the UK if possible.

I'd like to speak too and possibly meet up with Mith and Ice queen some time in the futre in the UK and may be they can help me locate a S/trac and help with advise etc?:thumb:

I may well have found a Scottish (Yellow) vehicle, but i'm waiting on the photo's to come back to me, then and only then will i know whether it's a Snow trac and not another make of snow cat, like a BV 202E or some thing!!

I have spent all day reading all these threads and am amazed at what you guys have got and what you all know on the subject:applause:

Hope to join in on some of the threads more often as time goes by and definatley when i get a Snow trac and start to restore it!
Thanks folks and

Welcome Tommo ,
Is there an "exclusive Ebay site" in England ???? I have seen a few on ebay so maybe you might look there .
I do know there is a fella in England who has a Tucker snowcat site . Other snowcat owners post there too . You might get lucky or he may know of someone in England that can help you . I'll see if I can find his web site and PM you .
As you already probably know by now, I own a brand X snowcat and not a Snow Trac . I was invited here to post and add my comments so Snow Trac owner's like "Mouse Ear" Mike and "Bogus" Bob could take turns poking me with a sharp stick . Little did they know of the monster they were unleashing .
I have now started my own "snow cat club" that is so "Exclusive" , that even "I" do not meet the minimum standards to join . Thats a darn shame because most days I really like me .
Hey!!! You be safe over there . My son went in on the first drive into Iraq with the 101st Airbourne and was stationed in Kabul . I did not know until then a father could age 10 years in 12 months .

Al . . . while I am guilty of inviting you here, I only did it because you are so unpopular that you won't even let yourself in your own club. Consider my invitation a "pity invite" and consider your ownership of a Kristi and our tolerance of your posting here, not as exclusive, but rather consider yourself our "token" member. :yum:

We had to prove were were an 'inclusive' group and as such, the fact that we let you show up and play here, is all the proof we need.

Tommo . . . despite all of the obvious flaws that Allen has, he did give you some good advice about looking in Ebay.UK. From time to time there are Snow Tracs listed on Ebay. There are also many equipment sites and auto sites that occasionally post Snow Trac's for sale. If you are willing to bring one in from France, there is still one for sale there. I posted a thread about it if you want to look it up. There is also one in Germany that is for sale. Check the military websites that sell surplus and obsolete military vehicles, that is where I found my Snow Trac.

:tiphat: Al, i know what you mean about the gray hairs and haggered look, but you get this from owning a Kristi thinging!! I was engaged in operations along side the 101st AB in Mosul when it kicked off over there! again thats another story that i dont want to go into details about if you where i'm coming from.

I will check out Ebay and see what comes up. What sought of price would one pay for a running example likes Bobs new toy from Bob Bateman? Pounds or $ if you please:rolleyes:

 Bob, an interesting write up about your British Snow trac that salvage squad (Tryed to) restored. Thing is they only did it for the makeing of the programme in less time that we would of ourselfs wanted to do our own restoration work over! I thought they had only time to do the chassis, tracks, tart up the paint and make sure it ran ok. The full running gear, i'm sure would have been done if time was on there hands? So Bob what do you think an average price one would expect to pay for a average to good order snow trac then? $5,000.00/$7,000.00 or less? Dont tell me they cost more, please:eek: Sorry guys i must go as things are happening here!!:17875:

Prices seem to run a wide range. It is hard to tell the condition over the internet, but I've seen them priced from $3500 to $19,000. The high priced unit was an extremely original nearly perfect unit. Most running examples I see are in the price range you quoted so I think you already have a good handle on it.

Tommo ,

Price on Snow Tracs and Kristi's can be "all over the place" depending if a person knows much about what they have . A number of ones I have seen were handed down in the family and are being sold for very little . There is a Kristi KT3 coming up for auction in Canada that will be lucky to bring $1000 . I have paid Hundreds for a basket case Kristi's and Thousands for a running one . If you have some mechanical skills you should do well . Since a Snow Trac was made in Europe it just seems there would be a larger market to choose from .

OH ! by the way , After that "Kristi Thingy crack" you have been added to my list that "Mouse Ear" Mike and "Bogus" Bob S. have been placed on .That is not good !
To not even own a Snow Cat and yet side with them after all I have done for you through the years ! :nono2:
Oh sorry ,,, I got caught up in my rant and ravings and used my "favorite line" I use on my kids . And you thought you were in a "bad place" being in Iraq!
But do not worry . My shoulders are wide and I can carry a heavy load of insults and harshful words . My satifaction will come when I ,alone, haul all your sorry "Arses" ( English for ass) back to safety when your Snow Tracs break down . :moon:

You stay safe and visit often !

I think mine was found in one of the Classic or Historical magazines, but can't remember much of the details as it was found for me by my son-in-law. I was suprised by the encouragement, but later found out that it was near to a Samson that he wanted to look at!! He later bought that Samson for spares for another Samson that he purchased - tracks now seem to run in the family as well as lots of wheels (lorries of various shapes and sizes!) Re Snow cats, (dare I mention that word?) another friend, who also parks his AEC Militant MK3 at my daughter's place, tows around a snowcat on his trailer and we have had a gread deal of fun with it off road and in bogs and climbing logs in the ring at The Great Dorset Steam Fair etc. It does not float at present as it resembles a sieve more than anything else, but fun anyway. Don't know about price for snow tracs in dollars, but I would have thought about £1500 to £2000 for a reasonable one.

its funny you searching in england as i had to go hunting for one at the time in scotland for one myself. purchased it at a reasonable price ... however when i got it free would of been to much.... not alog of hours on it. just a lot of sitting around outside for years.. sorry cant give you any thoughts on pricing or how much restroration would cost... as i won;t risk wife finding out my little secret... suggest this ... find and buy one then like a boat just open your wallet .... and enjoy ..... remember it can be as crazy or as conservative as you want to make it... just like anything .... shoot if anyone ever says anything just tell them its cheaper and safer than flying ....... regards. and welcome aboard... bob will be a great tool for locating a machine... i think he knows them all by name... g.robertson

:tiphat: Morning all, and what a great sunny day here in Baghdad for once! it's been Pi...down with rain for the last few day's and could really do with a Snow trac to get around in!!

Ice Queen, thanks for your help and advise, i'm sure i'll find one within the next few months with some hard looking and ringing around etc. So where do you take your military vehicle to then? The Dorset steam fair is by fare the best show put on in the UK and was going to take my Scout ah1 helicopter there and to the War and peace show (The helicopter is for sale if any one knows of any interested party's) but i will have to take a Snow trac when i get my hands on one that is! I suppose i could put it in the military vehicle magazine:thumb: Well i hope to meet up with you some time back in the UK if possible at a show or some thing.

:moon: Big Al, Nice to see i'm on your naughty boy list with the class trouble makers! As long as you dont make us write out Kristi a Thousand times i dont mind! The closest iv'e come to a Kristi is a Stem Kristi on ski's my friend!! To be honest Al you having one of those things is not so bad, as i suppose some one has't to have one i guess!! I will read up on them and try to find out what they are all about. You never know i may well find one of them before i find a Snow trac?:smileywac

Gordon, thanks for the advise and i'll speak again as and when, 'Happy day's'.

:a1: Bob, this site is sure a lot of fun and a lot of good chat goe's on and for a novice like me with snow trac's,its a heavan of support, which Keeis a must. Keep the good work up and thanks for a great place to rip into Kristi owner's (Sorry Al, it just slipped out old boy, what, what).

Cheer's to you all and hopefully i will meet some of you in the very near future.:17875:

Bob, thanks for the phone number, i did ring him yesterday and will be looking at the vehicle in the 2nd week of March as that's when I'm back from Baghdad! He wants what i would call a sensible price for it, he has rebuilt the engine and tells me there is no rust on the chassis and the tracks are good etc, etc.

I bought the Snow trac CDrom from the lady on eBay and two 35B Snow trac's Matchbox diecasts which i collect and have hundreds of, as i have been collecting Dinky and corgi etc for some years.'Just don't tell the wife how much i pay for some of these items, she'd do her nut!!

I should be getting a phone call from my brother, with reference to a really good condition Snow trac from the UK which he has seen and seems to think it is in what he would call...'exceptional condition for it's age', yes, when he sends me the digital photo's we'll soon see as I've asked him to take close ups from all angles of attack and inside and if possible underneath so i can see
the chassis as well!!
So hopefully this will turn out to be the 'Jewl in the crown', well i hope so any way:coolshade

see you all later:drink:

Nope, that was me. 2 of my people were there for 18 months tours of duty. One was a Sgt, located at Camp Phoenix outside of Kabul. She served as a nurse/medic and translator while she was there. The other just returned from a small base west of Bagdahd where he was a driver, transporting fuel from Kuwait to our bases around Bagdahd and areas to the north. Both serve as reservists in the US Army.

Just so you know, there are at least 3 versions of the die cast Snow Trac from Matchbox. There is rumor of a 4th version, but I've not ever confirmed it and certainly have never seen it. I own one of each of the 3 versions I know of. If you hunt around the Forums, you will find a thread about Snow Trac toys, I posted photos of all 3 confirmed versions.

:tiphat: Bob,

Sorry mate, i thought it was S/Ops who sent the info on AF/Bdad. I was in Mosul for 12 months, and had some pretty stuff times, loosing a number of my team over that period. Baghdad is not so bad compared to Mosul so I'm lucky I'm not doing the same sought of Operations due to the Insurgent cells being heavily taken out! I went into Camp Phoenix a few time when i was in Afghan to visit the good old PX! :a1:

What line of business are you or your company into then Bob? I will leave this line of work before it well and truly catches up with me, the wife will probably be OK with that!!

Me and my collection of Dinkies hay!! Wife thinks I've lost it.......Took her long enough to work that one out or what! I have the cast name and the white letter name and they are in almost excellent condition, which is nice.
I'm thinking of making a remote control tank into a Snow trac!! Petrol engine or electric, I'm not sure yet? What do you think, good huh! Again don't tell the wife....She thinks I'm working hard over here! well i am, on working out if i can make an RC Snow trac!:yum:

I will be ringing my brother again tonight to see if the cat is a Trac or a Ding bat? Photos has soon has i get them.....Promise, well once the deposit has been laid down that is.:coolshade

Tommo, there is a plain sided version of the toy that does not have embossed letters or a decal. I am very lucky, mine is in absolutely perfect condition and is photographed below. And if you don't tell the lovely Mrs_B what I paid, then I won't tell Mrs Tommo what you pay! :thumb:

As for my business, we are a distribution company that supplies retail businesses with about 6000 different items and services.

Small world my friend! I was in training (private) when I took a bad fall (40 + feet) at work and tore up my knees and back. I am an ex-police officer (years ago) and also did personal protection work for a couple of celebs in California. Knees are still giving me problems but should turn out ok in another year I hope. Thank you for your work! If you ever need anything let me know. Also dont believe everything you hear on them dam news channels! I would say 80% or more respect what you are doing and support you. (Can we send you a care package?) PM me with details if so. God Bless.

Tommo, yes I do know the Great Dorset Steam Fair, I go every year, I am part of the Commercial Heavy Haulage team in the 'playpen'. I went last year, with my Foden FH70 gun tractor and military office to Kent to the big military rally there, it was very good, but an awful long way from Wales. I hope to go this year to Kent, but possibly will take the snow trac, don't know yet, daughter and son in law possibly will take their Samson! I go to quite a few rallies during the year, it is my main hobby and keeps me sane - debatable point!
