I have thought about putting some calves on the ranch and letting them fatten up until fall , but I hate the taste of grass fed beef . I would rather eat Elk and Whitetail Deer . For some reason the wild meat just taste about 110% better than Grass Fed beef

And it isn't going to get any better for awhile. Not till later this year or early next year. At the local butcher my usual package was up to $10 a package. Read another piece on beef and it won't be getting any better till next year sometime.

Sheesh. At this rate we're going to have to actually start eating vegetables

Bacon Prices Just Hit Another All-Time High

It May Be 2015 Before Retail Beef Prices Come Back Down - Farm Futures

I'm surrounded by wild hogs, have 40 head of mama cows and calves at the farm, can see deer almost every night ... life is good.

PS. Also have a garden and can expand it at any time.

Well, those are city folks prices and it shows the declining value of the dollar.
And let's not forget that the biggest US pig farm is now owned by China and that bacon will head for the export.
So, if you have the possibility and enjoy grow your own or at least buy from the local guy instead from the speculators.
PS. I get free bacon.

Slight corrections:

A Chinese company has purchased Smithfield Foods, a large producer of pork products. AFAIK, Smithfield does not farm.

While I'm not in favor, this is really no different than GM owning factories in China, or Japanese companies raising wygu cattle in the US.

In a way, it is a good sign. Chinese companies would not be investing here unless they thought it was a good investment.

The rise and fall of commodities, including pork, has little to do with the declining dollar, but depends on the demand, which is currently fairly steady, and the supply, which is down due to a couple of factors, including a decline in the livestock herd due to a devastating disease.

Bacon demand, I believe, is at an all time high too. That certainly doesn't help the situation.

The demand in US is not that high but in China and Russia is very high.
And now China owns the processing facility and the exporting gate so local market has to find other sources.
In fact it is good for local farmers and processors.
City folks have the money.
What disease is that?

City folks have the money. . .
Unemployment and underemplyment plague many of our cities. The middle class is poorer today under Obama's economy. Not sure where you are getting your information.

Well, maybe in my area there is more work then workers.
Most people have new cars and new kids and those are signs of prosperity.
But then in Brunswick, GA, we hired 25 in in 2 weeks 10 stopped showing up at work and we are forced to send Latinos there to work at 25% more pay then here in California.
Many people refuse to work this days.

Other than specific affluent areas of larger cities, in general, "city folks" are some of the poorest people in our country. How can you be 180 degrees from the truth so often??

OMG!!! I believe this is the first statement you have made that I personally believe is completely based in truth. The very sad fact in this country is that we have a huge percentage of our population that is totally capable of working for a living but simply choose not to do so because they do not have to since they can live (via our government's redistribution of wealth) off of those of us who actually do work.

Yes and no.
Huge numbers of engineers and managers have retired early years back and now refuse to return when called upon. Yes, they live off fat pensions mostly provided from taxpayers funds.
There is a huge demand for their skills and the new generation does not have it. There is a drive to import them.
I personally refused to go back to Ariane approved production and prefer to remain a manager for aviation luxury items.
Economy is in big trouble due to lack of skilled workers or at least willing to learn.

Maybe I look at the part of the glass that is full?
One smart individual told me that if I fail 25% of the time I should be very happy and consider it a success.

Honestly I think you only look at part of the glass, not the whole glass. The USA is so large that what happens in one area of the nation, even one area of one state, may not be representative of the entire nation, or typical of the national averages.

If I recall, you are located in the southeast of the USA, that is an area that is doing better than most of the USA. Georgia has a great combination of regional, national and international companies, combined with a very good business climate that helps, rather than hinders business.

The state of Georgia is run reasonably well too, unlike many of the nearly bankrupt states in the Northeast, far west and some in the central part of the nation (Illinois).

Actually no, not mostly taxpayer funds. Pensions for private industry are provided by the businesses, not the government. Unless they were government workers working for the CDC (Atlanta) or some of the specialized military jobs, government jobs. But those are not the majority, they are the extreme minority.

I totally agree with you about the lack of skilled labor.

We are pushing too many kids into colleges but not nearly enough into the skilled trades. Obama, Bush, Clinton are all to blame for this fact.

Are you serious?! You are going to honestly say that 'people who refuse to work' are even minutely represented by "engineers and managers" who have "retired early" (voluntarily) and that they "live off fat pensions mostly provided form taxpayers funds"??? :yum::yum::yum: That is supposed to be a joke, right?

1. As an optimist I look at the part of the glass that has something in it.
2. But people are free to move where work is.
3. What shocked me is the fact that Georgia came up with $60K of taxpayers money to select and train the people I will hire. Very socialist of them.
4. Lockheed, NASA, Northrop, part of Boeing are 100% taxpayers funds and that were my employers. $8K pensions that come from today's taxpayers.
5. Agree. When Obama said not all young people need to go to college most jumped at him as he did some crime. I agreed with him and my brother never went to college and he assembled F22 and now he is a supervisor on C130 production line.

1. Physics dictates that the WHOLE GLASS is full. Some of it is full of air. Some of it is full of liquid. But it is all full. ONLY by looking at the WHOLE GLASS can you see the ENTIRE picture.
2. Yes, but many don't/won't move. I know that is silly, but it is true.
3. Yes, even Republican states have "job training" programs, largely because it takes people OFF of the socials services and turns them into tax payers.
4. WRONG. Lockheed-Martin, Northrop Grumman and Boeing are NOT 100% taxpayer funds. All 3 are PRIVATE companies and all 3 have BOTH private and government sales, consequently some of their production goes to private and some goes to public. But 100% of the pensions are paid by the COMPANIES. You would be correct about NASA.

I'm sorry, but based on your pure misinformation that you claim to be facts, I sincerely doubt you have ever been employed by any of these companies. If so, perhaps only by some sort of temporary agency as a temporary worker since you are completely and totally wrong about how they operate, how they are managed, how they are funded and how their employees are handled. Your total inability to provide any verifiable facts seems to be really causing you not only credibility issues, but even issues telling the same stories over time.

1. Majority of people do not have basic knowledge of physics. Once in a plane a gentlemen in his 40's next to me told me that he does not understand how a metal object can fly in the air. Air is invisible.
2. But many will move and even 1000 new comers per day. People that work move say Natural Law.
3. Agree. But Democratic states like California does not have that and let new businesses take care of their own needs. Reverse?
4. Look beneath the surface. You will see a different World. Have you seen in the store any Lockheed or Northrop items? Obama is forcing Lockheed to produce a civilian version of C130 in 2 yrs.

1. Just because people don't know physics does not mean that it is not true. If you want to look at only the part of the glass with fluid in it then you are NOT looking at the WHOLE glass. Consequently you ONLY have PART of the information. Ignoring the rest of the information is why you seem so misiinformed.
...
4. Yes, go to a boating store and you will see radars and electronics used by boats. If you are a private pilot you see the same things. They ARE available, but the customer base is primarily to businesses that produce goods which are not typically found at the local grocery store!

1. Knowing the reality is education and we are short of that.
4. Sure they are not Raytheon?

4. That is one of the other brands, mostly they are radar, guidance systems for military rockets, etc. I think they may also (still?) make some communication equipment for private aircraft.

I believe Andrei lives near Oakland, Ca. The Ga reference has to do with his employers satellite plant in Georgia.
