Angry NY official wants to tax hiking!

CROWN POINT, N.Y.
Going for a hike in the Adirondacks doesn't cost anything, but one elected official in the North Country thinks New York state should start charging for the privilege.
Crown Point Town Supervisor Charles Harrington tells the Press-Republican of Plattsburgh that he wants to explore the idea of charging a fee for using public hiking trails in the Adirondacks. He says the fees could generate significant revenue for the state.
Harrington says hikers could buy state-issued permits using an Internet-based payment system.
Other local officials are against the plan, saying it would discourage people from visiting the region.
State-owned hiking trails are administered by the Department of Environmental Conservation. A DEC official told the newspaper that there hasn't been any proposal to charge hiking fees.

It's New York, what do you expect? Next they'll put pedometers on everyone and tax their footsteps. How about a meter on every lactating mother's boobs so they can meter the "manufacturing of milk" and collect a tax on it. Dumb, greedy scumbags...There is a special place in hell for politicians...ALL OF THEM!

If governments do not collect revenues, then they cannot spend it.

It's simple,,,,really!

Generations paid taxes fishing and hunting fees, to build the State parks for everybody to use. Now their offspring has to pay for the privilige. The only good side of this would be that now the Tree Huggers will have to pay their fair share.

They already do that out here. Most State Parks and DNR area require you to have a pass of some form. If you wanted to be able to go "anywhere" in the state you would need up to three different recreation passes.
