Earlier today, my colleague Jennifer Van Laar posted on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s vehement denial of a scurrilous and uncorroborated story run by the New Yorker. This would be different than the scurrilous and uncorroborated story run by the Washington Post a week ago.
I have to admit I was heartened to hear Kavanaugh was going to fight and that President Trump is saying he will not pull the nomination because over the weekend the cruise directors in the GOP and the conservative movement were beginning to agree that Kavanaugh had to withdraw because otherwise we might actually have to fight and anger Democrats to get this nominee approved.
In a sign that the GOP is beginning to solidify behind the Kavanaugh nomination, Senate Majority Leader “Cocaine” Mitch McConnell went to the floor of the Senate today to excoriate Democrats over their tactics and to express support for Kavanaugh.
Actually, the only person in the entire Ford fable who hasn’t given evidence under oath is Christine Ford (here | here).
As I’ve said several times, McConnell isn’t motivated very much by pubic policy. What he is motivated by is respect. He demands his due as majority leader and if you cross him, he will retaliate. What the Democrats have done here is turn Kavanaugh hearing into something like playing dwarf-toss in a Florida bar. He doesn’t like that because it reflects on him and it is a blatant lack of respect being shown him.
I don’t know how this plays out, but right now it looks like Kavanaugh will get an up-or-down vote by the Senate.

McConnell is furious right now on Senate floor. "Even by the far left’s standards, this shameful, shameful smear campaign has hit a new low."
