I heard this on the radio, and it makes alot of sence...

Des Moines Iowa is a favorite place to "test market" products. As it turns out that marketers noticed if a product does well in Des Moines, it may very well, but not always work nationally. If it fails the Des Moines market don't bother with a national attempt to market it......

That said, He stated that Iowa's role in the process is more about picking the candates who do not go on with their run for office. No, we are not really good at picking winners, Just those who cann't win....and need to stop their attemp....:whistling:

I thought these were wise words to share here.....

Best regards, Kirk

I would agree to a point Kirk however the state also has less voters state wide than most medium size cities in most other states. But they are the first state to actually vote even with their caucus system it is still voting.

New Hampshire is the first state to actually vote by standard methods as well as being larger and a more diverse population. Not meant to be a slam on Iowa just stating the obvious really. After New Hampshire and South Carolina we will have a better idea of how the GOP will shake out.

Call me Dumbo but I don't see it being obvious. How is NH larger?

Iowa population = 3,000,000+ est.
New Hampshire = 1,300,000+ est.

Can you quantify the "diverse" for me? Obama carried both states in '08 with about a 54% to 45% final vote. They seem to have the same political makeup to me.

It isn't but the number and method of voting is different. New Hampshire one walks in does a ballot and leaves, Iowa means staying until all votes are in hence less of the population actually votes. You are looking at a state wide GOP turn out right at 100,000 people or 3% of the total population. That is my point.

Iowa is mostly white, rural, low unemployment compared to the national average with a large portion of the GOP voters being more interested in social issues than say a New Hampshire. At least from the break downs I've seen as both states are different demographically.

I also know Obama carried both states and probably will again as that has nothing to do with what I stated really as both states also have democrats and liberals also.
