I'm ramping up my search for a snow cat, well actually I'd really like a snow trac, but they seem hard to locate. I thought I'd post up my weekly search results from Craigslist if someone else is looking as well. Any and all snow trac leads welcome..

I know those are just asking prices they seem kind of high, glad I scarfed up my 2100 when I did. looks like folks are getting proud of their cats. some like that 1200 likely are worth the money. but the tucker is a wee bit high I will be into my 2100 with diesel power for less than 10 k landed in Nome so I would have a hard time paying that much for a 318 in an older rig like that tucker. by the way the trickster is really a raid track 618 I have one in my back yard I didn't pay over 1000 dollars for it.

Yes not very many Snow Tracs have been for sale lately from what we are hearing on this forum anyway. They seem to come up more often in spring as the season ends it seems to me anyway. This time of year all makes and models seem to carry a premium on the price IMHO..

funny thing is there hasn't been much demand for the little red machines lately every one wants a bombi, I don't know why for some one of our size they are hard to get in and out of and have an awful ride quality. like the snow trac they are light less than 8 feet wide and easy to trailer. the tuckers seem pretty expensive lately even the old metal track models.

Allen Bob's snow trac ran out of gas because he uses it. if it were like a krusty it would have the same gas in it that was put in the tank 4 years ago and never use a drop.

The '81 diesel rubber belted Tucker is the way to go ! NICE

The photos seem somewhat limited, as does the listing description. So purely from observation (disclaimer) here are some comments:

Engine appears to be a Cummins V-378. It's a V6 Diesel that was the predecessor of the 6BT. It was available in either normally aspirated and turbocharged versions. (This one looks like it's normally aspirated.) From some cursory Internet "research" the 378 doesn't produce all that much power, it's very heavy and parts are hard to find (and expensive when you do find them).

The transmission is likely the Allison AT-545 automatic (four-speed non-overdrive).

The rear carriers look like they're installed backward. (Tucker long-track carriers are asymmetric and the longer ends typically face outward; either to the front on the front axle or to the rear on the rear axle.)

The rectangular box holding the transmission shifter looks like it was broken from the dash panel and re-welded to it at on odd angle.

Looking between the seats there's a black knob. I think that's probably for a rear hydraulic control valve.

But $6,500 seems very "reasonable" for a long track Tucker, even if it needs work (and I don't know that it does).

If my memory is right a long track requires 31 grousers per track which yields a total of 124. Elsewhere on the forum someone is currently selling older steel track Tucker grousers for fifty bucks apiece. At that rate you'd be buying all the grousers on this machine and then getting EVERYTHING else for $300.00. That's roughly the cost of one new driveshaft...

Dido on the Cummins power plant. Not a popular engine to begin with and parts are hard to find as was said. Long time since I saw this engine in anything....

He is keeping it ethanol free that way!

Check this out if you're in the Willamette Valley (Oregon) and need a transport vehicle for your Tucker. We used to use these rigs to haul company cats when I worked for Pacific Northwest Bell. I suspect that this is one of their surplus vehicles.

That's pretty cool. Keeps the weight of the tucker low to the ground also. Neat rig.

Cletis

There was a similar truck listed on ebay in mid-September. A 1990 Ford F-800 6x6 (Marmon-Herrington conversion). It also had a 20K winch and only 10,000 miles. Really amazing shape. Honestly I was "tempted", but successfully resisted!

It had a buy it now price of $9,995.00 or best offer and didn't sell. The seller listed it again without selling it and subsequently removed the Tucker specific bed and put on a conventional flatbed and it eventually sold for presumably under $8K.

Check it out, here's the original listing with special Tucker bed:

The 1970 Spryte 1201 C Thiokol was purchased Saturday for 10k and sold Monday for 18.5K

Hmmmm....I did some snowcat flipping last year with great returns and $100 paint jobs. Pretty easy to double your money in a coup,e weeks time if you find the right seller/buyer.
