New to me something or other Tucker???

Went for a little ride today, and ended up with a vintage GMC pickup body, with some sort of tucker under it !!!! :smile:

The dash plate says 1958 443?? It has a rounded nose like the 1950's up models and a pickup style cab. Its not in the best of shape,been sitting 20 years. The engine still turns over, and has 2 spare pontoons and 3 sets of spare tracks with bearings. Supposedly he has a parts manual also. The front pontoon looks like the axle studs are broken or stripped its at a bit of an angle.All in all will be good for parts if nothing else !!!! :wink:

the tracks are like iron bars at the moment,and i didnt really need the old trailer it is setting on. will take some elbow grease and logger vocabulary to get it to move. :biggrin:

That's quite the find! The good thing is it was left on that trailer. It may be locked up, but at least it hasn't completely rusted away. But it looks like that's going to take quite a bit of diesel/trans juice to break that free. It does suck that so many of the 443's in the NE got chopped to put a bed on them. :neutral:

Nice find. Not sure why the good people of NH love chopping the 3 models into convertible or 2 models. Think there is a chop top 300 series sitting up there also.

I would bet that it will be running driving for you in the near future. Will make a good companion to the others.

Funny how the Tuckers seem to multiple. What part of the North Country it come from?

Good find loggah, rounded nose with track adjusters both ends, doesn't sound like a '58 to me, I'm sure that the pontoons have been replaced over the years, did not have them new in round nose years. Worst case scenario, winch the trailer with cat on lowboy.

Forget the Sno-Cat, I am after the stainless triple wall stove pipe.

The Dash plate says 1958, what year were the last round nose tuckers produced?im sure the pontoons are newer style with adjusters at both ends, and you cant blame N.H. people for making a pickup out of it,its a northern Adirondack snowcat !!!!!! :biggrin:

looks like I sent the steam Lombard/phoenix to the wrong State.

I sent it to Alaska freight paid in full..... Machine was from the scarsborough maine area. I bet I could have traded you the boiler for some pontoons...

In regards to the trailer, Just leave it on the trailer......did you say that was a pintle or 2-5/16.
+1 on the A - Vent. that stuff is gold around here as well.

It was landing mats !!!!!!! GRRRRR you have never seen aggravation unless you have tried to slide a "DEAD" tucker with frozen tracks on a landing mat decked trailer!! every hole grabs the grouser. Trailbuilder and i went yesterday and got the tucker 250 mile round trip,lots of jacking,winching, crowbars and rigging ,4 part line on a electric winch. The good thing was there were 4 sets of tracks,instead of 2 and 2 still had orange paint and "NEW" bearings! :biggrin:

Trailbuilder took photos ,hopefully he will post them,my wife took pictures after we got it home will post those later. going to go get some of the goodies off the trailer.

Yes there are 4 sets of tracks and two pontoons there somewhere. After we had been wandering around in the tall grass for about half an hour looking for other treasures we were informed to watch out for timber rattlers

I'm not sure if it was buyers remorse or wondering when he was going to find the time to work on it.

That's me after the prize was loaded. Just like the phrase ( It was like trying to herd Cats) This one did not want to get on the trailer.

We had some pieces of box tubing we started with under the rear pontoons,but every time a grouser caught in one of those mat holes,the pontoons wanted to twist around like a "HULA" dancer !!!!! Im going to take all the pontoons off and put 4 tires on it for now,so i can move it around and get it set aside. I will put the tracks and pontoons on some pallets for the time being also.I got to finish my pole barn :biggrin:

I will add it was a good thing Trailbuilder took his truck! this morning i drove my truck with the trailer behind it about 1 mile and blew a brakeline !!! talk about coinsidence! :wow:

That cat was first sold to Sno-Cat of N.H. in 1953. It is a 1953 year. That tag is the correct 95 HP engine for that cat. Might check to see if it still has the original engine. It was a sedan model when new.

Scott, the plate looked like 1958, and the serial number made it a 1953????? is the grill a 1953 model or a 1958 model ???? thats kinda why i said i wasn't sure what it is. The engine is a model 30 industrial,so it has been replaced. Don

The year may have been double stamped with the 3 backward the first time. The round nose is '53. The IND 5A is a Chrysler 30 engine. Check the ser. no. on the left front of block, just below the head. I wood think that it is the original engine as usually when they get replaced, the engine will be an automotive one.

Get your magnet out and check if the fifth wheels are aluminum or steel. That could be another way to check year. I am sure that it is a '53.

The 5th wheels are definitely steel ! i will check the engine number this afternoon ,i went and got 4 ford ranger tires and rims this morning going to put them on, to make her mobile. :biggrin:

I'm hoping i never break any of those springs with the hump in them.
