300 Ford... Carbed versus fuel injected ???

My neighbour is looking for a 300 Ford carbed engine for his 1954 Bombardier R12 snowmobile. I found an engine for him complete with the trans, but it's fuel injected. We were wondering about the pros & cons of these engines in this machine.

first off you could strip it down to a short block and put on a carb intake and duraspark ignition ,or you could run the complex wiring and computer and have the fuel injection system. the biggest down fall is it's going to take a lot of real estate with the big ass manifold for efi. on the plus side it will start with out touching the gas pedal you will have a more responsive throttle, and will almost work as good as a turbo at altitude because of the map sensor compensating for altitude. the only real downfall will be creating a wiring harness ands mounting a computer make shure you get the computer and harness and both fuel pumps with the package it will make the job easyer and cheaper. also 1 fuel pump will have to be mounted in side the tank

Don the fuel pump that goes inside the tank is electric ?? Can you put in an inline electric pump instead as there isn't much room on top of the tank.

as long as you can feed it the volume you should be ok. in the late 80's and early 90's ford used 2 fuel pumps the lift pump was an intake pump this did 2 things it fed the boost pump and switched tanks with a valve block that was pressure activated. the boost pump was located on the frame under the cab and was never intended to suck it stepped fuel pressure up to a max of 65psi, the rail is flooded at high pressure and excess pressure is blead off through the fuel pressure regulator back to the tank. the reason ford put the pumps in the tank were to fight off vapor lock, and the pumps had to work less to pump at the source, and presumably lasted longer

And when the line from that boost pump sprang a leak they dumped a shit load of fuel in hurry. Had it happen on a stake body I was driving and it is a wonder it did not go up in a fireball.
