CA Governor Claims Trump Will End Up in the ‘Waste Bin of History’: Here’s How Things Look in His State

California Gov. Gavin Newsom had some sharp words to say against President Donald Trump in a recent interview with Politico.

Newsom — who was elected governor following the 2018 elections — claimed that Trump and his Republican supporters would end up in the “waste bin of history.”

“[Republicans] are into the politics of what California was into in the 1990s..and they’ll go the same direction — into the waste bin of history, the way Republicans of the ’90s have gone,” he said. “That’s exactly what will happen to this crop of national Republicans.”

Newsom also attacked Trump for stroking the “the fear of ‘the other,'” telling Politico:

America in 2019 is California in the 1990s. The xenophobia, the nativism, the fear of ‘the other.’ Scapegoating. Talking down or past people. The hysteria. And so, we’re not going to put up with that. We are going to push back.”

While Newsom had a lot of negative things to say about Trump, he had less to say about the problems facing California under his personal leadership.

Trump has overseen record-breaking economic growth, prison reform, and the decimation of ISIS. Newsom, on the other hand, has some less flattering accomplishments. California had the highest poverty rate in the nation and faces an affordable housing crisis.

For example, the city of San Francisco has a horrific homeless problem that has expanded well beyond the street corners of a few rough neighborhoods. Open the Books put together a map of all the reported findings of human feces on the ground throughout the city.

Beyond the feces, San Francisco also faces a problem with open needles in the street. As NPR reported, NBC Bay Area found more than 100 needles in a survey of 153 city blocks.

Outside of the problems of homelessness and unsanitary conditions, California residents face some of the highest taxes in the nation, as IJR previously reported.

From the looks of things, Newsom isn’t trying to save money. He recently announced that he would be paying $98 million per year to cover the health insurance for illegal immigrants in the state, as IJR Red reported.

Even Newsom admitted that there are major problems — even a “crisis” — in California, though he did place the blame on those who ran the state before him.

“That didn’t happen overnight, that’s a 20-30-year trend,” Newsom told Politico. “We own it now, we’re owning up to that. That’s at least a change: no one is denying the crisis.”

Several conservatives were quick to criticize Newsom for claiming Trump would end up in the “waste bin of history.”

Reaction 1: what a dope. Reaction 2: this is the reason Democrats want amnesty for illegal aliens. Once you let people who broke the law vote out the people who wanted to enforce it, it’s over. Reaction 3: if that happens, Newsom, the country is done, too

Newsom was elected in 2018 and will hold his position until 2023.
