Tucker 1643 new project

Archmage

New member
I just picked up this 1980 1643 with 769 hrs!
318 with a 4 speed manual.

I am interested to see how the 4 speed does compared to my other two cats with 5 speed transmissions.

The under carriage is in really good shape other than a few sprockets. Overall its in great shape other than a few minor details, bent exhaust, broken inlet on radiator expansion tank, and needs some new door/engine hood seals.

I can't wait to add all of the goodies, lights, radio, new roof rack, lockers, diff covers, and probably new paint to this one. The interior is in great condition other than the two rear seats, but I think we will modify them to convert from bench seats to make a flat area for the new baby girl!

Best part of this cat was the plethora of belts, wheels, grousers, bolts, and other brand new spare parts filling the back up.

So far I have a 1642, a 1643, and a 1544. Just need to swap out the 1544 for a 1644 and I will be set!

Congratulations... On the baby girl and on the Tucker.

In my opinion they are the holy grail of backcountry access machines when you need to carry more than four people. And 1643s are rare. Finding one is hard, finding one in nice shape is harder.

My first Tucker came with a four speed transmission and then I had a few five speeds. If you look at the gear ratios and the respective spreads between gears, I don't think you'll find it to be limiting at all.

Congrats again. Very Cool!!!
