I didn't see a free file recovery utility.

"Accidentally deleted an important file? Lost something important when your computer crashed? No problem! Recuva recovers files deleted from your Windows computer, Recycle Bin, digital camera card, or MP3 player. And it's free!"

Here is a link to Sysinternals

These folks have a bunch of very helpful programs that go "under the hood" in Windows. They can tell ypu things like what processes are loaded at astartup and whai is going on inside windoes that is taking all the time and slowing things up.

If nothing else great browsing.

Since I just lost my hard drive, and did not have my windows install key, the last thing that I did before replacing the drive (It would only come up in safe mode) was to go here.

Magical Jellybean keyfinder will find the install codes for Windows and other programs that need a key. This can be VERY helpful.

Want to know more about your PC? Go here. Belarc advisor will give you an awful lot of information about your hardware and the software loaded on it. I try to run a Belarc on all the computers in a new site when I take it over and file it. It helps a lot in the future.

Want to create PDF files? Don't want to pay the price for the full Adobe Acrobat? Go to Cute PDF.

There you can get a free PDF converter. Just select it like any other printer and tell it where to put the PDF. They also sell programs that let you merge and edit PDF's and make bookmarks and indeses, like the big guys.

We use to use CutePDF a lot for printing our Word Document quotes. This way no one can change them. Now Word has a feature built in it for doing the same.

Murph, yes word 2007 (I think does). MS Office on Apple does it as well. Lots of folks are still using older versions of word and can use it. Also I use Open Office and use it for that as well. It is alos handy from other programs that you want PDF output from.

Oh! Commercial for Open Office. - Want the functionality of MS Office for free? Are you willing to do a bit of learning? http://www.openoffice.org/

Doc, another good one you recommended a while back is Easy Thumbnails.

It will make thumbnails from pictures, scale things up and down and even do an entire directory if you want.
