MONUMENTS MEN the movie

Watched the movie MONUMENTS MEN last evening and really enjoyed it.

It was a docudrama type movie, set during World War II, and centered around a group of art historians, museum curators, art scholars, who were tasked to recover the stolen art treasures that Hitler's Nazi's were gathering from all over Europe.

This is no oscar winning movie.

Nor is it historically accurate in detail.

But it is a good movie that is enjoyable to watch, that shows the virtues of art for arts sake, while mixing in some good old fashioned war, some drama, some humor. The MONUMENTS MEN did exist in real life, they were real scholars turned quasi-soldiers, and they were detached to find, save, and return as many art treasures as was possible. Their discoveries saved these stolen treasures and returned many to their rightful owners. The movie is more of a drama as it centers around the lives of about a half dozen men, while in reality the group was much larger and more diverse.

Yes, despite the fact that George Clooney is in the movie and is one of the producers I'm still suggesting you watch the flick. John Goodman gives a solid performance, as does Matt Damon, Bill Murray and Cate Blanchett, among others.

Movie is based on a book, book is based on true events. So this movie is loosely based on fact.

For some of the real story behind the movie there was a military program called the MONUMENTS, FINE ARTS and ARCHIVES PROGRAM => http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monuments,_Fine_Arts,_and_Archives_program

Well worth the $1 rental at RedBox.

And if you have kids, they may enjoy it too. No sex, a bit of foul language (but not much), Lord's name take in vein a few times, and no graphic violence but there are a few people who are shot and 2 main characters die.
