I can't speak for it's quality but that's one heck of a price...

What appears to be the same generator (re-badged under new name) is at Sears for $786

Looks to be just like my 5500 watt genny I got from pep boys a couple of years ago before they went out of buisness . Mine has a Wen engine on it & It works fine for generating if you can get it to start . I been fighting all the safety features on it since I got it . I called customer service & couldn't get any help & as ussuall its in India I think . :yum:

The craftsmen unit is pull or electric start & the only way I would buy one anymore .

Thanks for the correction Cowboy. I noticed the similarities in design but missed the electric start on the Sears model.

I'd like to know how they arrive at the rating, and what the duty cycle is. I've owned a 6kw and a 9kw generator in boats. They were both significantly larger on both ends, drive and driven. I have to equate that with something akin to duty cycle. If a marine genny manufacturer could build one lighter and smaller with the same output ability, I am sure they would. To that end, Panda makes a compact marine generator, but have heard nothing but bad news about them, like, they don't last very long.

How ever the marine gensets were rated, I believe these two posted used some other method.

When it comes to generators, "Truth is in the eye of the seller". I've been looking for a diesel generator for some time and saw one the other day that was advertised as "ultra quiet" with a decibel rating of 93 at 7 meters. I'm sure it was ultra quiet after it burst your frickin' ear drums.
