After referring Sushi to alt.marketing.online.ebay, I stopped by over there to see if it is as I remember it.
A recent post claims that most recent stolen account scams were caused not by phishing, but rather by hacking into ebay itself using a hacker program that is available to purchase. The hack lets the scammer post his own auctions and redirect payment, all without locking the account owner out.

I've heard auctionguild described favorably so it might be a good place to learn more about ebay selling in general.
