Hydroxychloroquine - BOTH kills patients & helps patients?!?

So a bunch of studies were conducted regarding Hydroxychloroqunine.

Different conclusions were drawn from the studies.

How can 1 drug BOTH kill and help patients :bolt:

In the much hailed (by the US media) study at one of our VA hospitals, it was determined that Hydroxychloroqunine KILLS patients quicker than Covid-19. The test studies were validated and seem to be accurate.

In other studies, mostly relegated to page 2 of the news, it was determined in studies that Hydroxychloroqunine actually HELPS patients recover from Covid-19. The test studies were validated and seem to be accurate.

So what is the difference? How can both studies be accurate?

VA study was conducted where the drug was given to VERY ILL patients with Covid-19. Basically it was administered as a last ditch effort after all other treatments failed. In this study the patients actually died at higher rates than untreated patients.

Several other studies, the drug was given as an EARLY treatment to patients which had not progressed into very serious condition. While many patients never develop serious symptoms, the overall rates of people who developed serious Covid-19 symptoms was lower and the recovery rate was higher.

So it appears that BOTH studies are correct depending upon when the drug is administered. Given as an early onset treatment Hydroxychloroquine WORKS. Given late in the course of a patient with serious disease symptoms it appears that Hydroxychloroquine actually KILLS patients.

The point? Our understanding of the disease is evolving. Treatment is evolving. The doctors are getting better at understanding what is going on. It also illustrates why it is important to continue to learn.
