Wheels for an ST4

The earlier variants had the double boggie wheels up front at the track inflection point. This design was used until about fron 1958 to 1968/1969 MY. There is a lot of impact on the wheels there and a lot of flat tires resulted. The design was changed to use only one large 16x4 tire there in place of the two boggie wheels. It is a more durable/reliable arrangment. Sometimes in real rough conditions the double boggie wheel carrier can flip over and jam the tracks. The usually results in something getting broken.

So the small-wheel/big-wheel division of Snow Tracs is the quickest way to id what MY it is. There are a few exceptions where pre 1969 units have been retro fitted with the single large wheel.
