After days of denials, Iran admits its surface-to-air missile took down the Ukrainian passenger airplane

Iran has admitted shooting down the civilian Ukrainian jetliner that crashed on Wednesday near Tehran, killing all of the 176 passengers on board. The Iranian admission comes amid mounting evidence, with U.S., British, and Canadian intelligence confirming that the plane was shot down by an Iranian surface-to-air missile.

The Iranian military blamed the shooting of the airliner on ‘human error,’ Iranian state TV reported, citing an official statement. So far, Tehran had pinned the blame on mechanical fault for the downing of the Boeing 737-800.

Associated Press reported:

Iran announced Saturday that its military “unintentionally” shot down the Ukrainian jetliner that crashed earlier this week, killing all 176 aboard, after the government had repeatedly denied Western accusations that it was responsible.

The plane was shot down early Wednesday, hours after Iran launched a ballistic missile attack on two military bases housing U.S. troops in Iraq in retaliation for the killing of Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani in an American airstrike in Baghdad. No one was wounded in the attack on the bases.

A military statement carried by state media said the plane was mistaken for a “hostile target” after it turned toward a “sensitive military center” of the Revolutionary Guard. The military was at its “highest level of readiness,” it said, amid the heightened tensions with the United States.

Still refusing to take the responsibility for the shooting down of the civilian airliner, Iran continued to point fingers at America. On Twitter, Iran’s foreign minister Javad Zarif blamed U.S. “adventurism” for the act.

Tehran’s remarks echo similar sentiments aired by some leading Democrats. Democratic presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg suggested on Thursday that the U.S. shared the blame for downing of the airliner, tweeting that “nnocent civilians” had been “caught in the middle of an unnecessary and unwanted military tit for tat,” after U.S. eliminated top Iranian terror operative Qassem Soleimani, who according to the Pentagon was planning imminent attacks on U.S. troops and diplomats stationed in Iraq.

Earlier this week, images showed Iranian workers bulldozing and clearing the crash site in an apparent attempt to destroy the evidence. Tehran had announced that it was opening the black boxes recovered from the debris of the plane, but refused to allow U.S. experts to analyse the flight data.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iranian state TV, citing a military statement, says the country ‘unintentionally’ shot down a Ukrainian jetliner, killing all 176 aboard.

The statement came Saturday morning and blamed “human error” for the shootdown.

The U.S., British and other Western intelligence services had concluded that the Ukrainian airliner was shot down by “two Iranian surface-to-air missiles which were launched and detected by satellites just minutes after the airliner took off,” UK’s Daily Mail reported. Tehran had earlier rubbished the Western intelligence findings as ‘big lies.’ The head of Iran’s civil aviation organization dismissed the assertion of Tehran’s involvement in shooting down the civilian airliner as “illogical”. “Scientifically, it is impossible that a missile hit the Ukrainian plane,” he declared on Thursday.

Washington has already announced stern measures against the regime if it were found responsible for the shooting. If evidence showed Iran’s hand in the shooting down of the plane, the U.S. “and the world will take appropriate actions in response,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Friday.

A TYPICAL Dem bassackwards comment

NO Trump did NOT cause them to shoot down the airliner...they did that on their own volition.

Why do Democrats insist on blaming America for every evil they can invent? By what logic does scolding Citizens entice them to vote for you?

There are rumors that the DNC is being investigated for possible ties to the USA.

I just saw a screenshot of a propaganda video.
It's blowing up the Capitol and White House.
That video was Iranian made.
It's on bizpacreview FB page, but not on their web link.
Not that I could find anyway.

The plane took off FROM Tehran. It was ascending and only 8 minutes into it's flight, leaving the country. There had been no ordinance exploded on Iranian soil by any enemy. And the manifest claims 64 people on the plane were Canadian nationals.

These are facts. Indisputable. And the Iranians knew all of this. That is also a fact!

The missile system had to be intentionally armed, specifically targeted, and fired. Otherwise, it may well have gone after one of their outgoing missiles.

I wish the media, and our government, would stop calling the downing an "accident." This was intentional as hell.

The mullahs in Iran have no respect for any human life. They would kill their own young to put a blame on the USA. And soon, like it or not, they will somehow and very soon have nukes.

Clutch your children close, keep your grip packed and powder dry boys. This is far from over.

Make no mistakes folks, this shoot down was no mistake. But, it was a bad move on the part of the Mullahs.

The people know they are lying. Not much in the news yet but the Iranians are protesting. Not against the USA but the Mullahs. The flags of the USA and Israel are painted on the sidewalks so Iranians can step on the colors. They are now refraining from insulting the USA.

Our President Trump as promised to support the Iranian people. His two predecessors had done the same. But being chicken shit politicians, they both reneged.

Trump won't.

It is my belief that the biggest strategic reason we are still in Afghanistan and Iraq for the last 18 years is to contain Iran. I'm betting by summer we will have seen the end of the mullahs and we can bring most of the troops home. Just in time for the fall re-election of President Trump.

Blame or credit whom you wish but I'll put part of the credit for his re-election on the coldhearted decision of the Ayatollah Khomeini decision to purposely kill their own, and others, on a civilian plane with a Russian missile.

You just may be right Franc. Up until today, they have not agreed to a damn thing in 41 years unless it was backed up with 10 pallets of greenbacks. In 10 days and one swift kick in the nuts from Donald, their attitude seems to have changed a bit, wouldn't you say?

See what happens when the Executive doesn't "ask" permission from the Congress when executing his obligations to the country.

Imagine, if you will, the tone and results of a conversation with Speaker Pelosi asking permission from congress before taking out the enemy's terrorist agent Qassem Soleimani.
