There were several Porsche powered Snow Tracs stationed in Antarctica.

We've got a few VERY OLD threads here on the Forums.

Somewhere buried in the forums we have a whole thread on the Porsche powered Snow Tracs that were used in Antarctica.

I'm under the impression they were converted to Porsche power in Australia or NZ and then shipped down to Antarctica. We had some documentation on some of this, and had some contact with a guy who was down there too.

Here are a couple threads on the topic => http://www.forumsforums.com/3_9/showthread.php?t=3058&highlight=antarctica+porsche

I know a guy from my ham radio hobby, that worked for the Porsche dealer that did the mods. they would receive the snow tracs engine deleted and install brand new 356 porsch engines with dual carbs .he claimed about 90 hp the modds were all done in Australia. I try to pick his brain about as much info as he has still but being in his mid 70's he has a hard time remembering all there was to know about them.

That VW was taken back to Australia cleaned up and toured around to dealerships as a promotional after service in Antarctica, nobody seems to know what ever happened to it.
