SUMMERVILLE — Authorities say a 23-year-old South Carolina man has died after he was sucked into a passing train.
Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet told multiple media outlets that Justin Helton of Summerville was killed around 2 a.m. Thursday.
Nisbet says Helton had been drinking at a bar to celebrate his birthday, got into a fight and went outside. Helton told someone he was going to slap a train that was passing by and was sucked into it.
Helton was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say the train conductor did not know about Helton's death and had to be stopped farther down the tracks for the investigation.
