As most of you know I am working my way across America 40 square miles at a time. In my travels I run across some very cool Military Vehicles. I will post pictures I take here. If anyone also finds some cool Military vehicles please feel free to post them here as well. :punk:

Some of the new US troop trucks! These are the 5 ton versions. Also the new rear cargo pods that go on the 1 1/2 ton trailers. I am told they are to lightly built for the military who tends to stack stuff.

Those Unimog backhoes are called SEE's, Small Emplacement Excavator. The Army used to use John Deere 410 backhoes, but for long distances they had to be trailered because they could not keep up with the other vehicles. With the SEEs they could run with a convoy until about 57 MPH and then they would start bouncing. They do dig well, and they are faster, but the front end loaders are more difficult to see than on a traditional TLB. They also have aux hydraulic outputs for jackhammers and hydro chainsaws.

Thats exactly what the soldiers told me! They said since they have such a short wheelbase they start to buck at speed. I would still trailer them to a site if I had to go a long distance. For short distances I think they are the perfect solution. I would really like to get one or two of these! Thanks for your input. Seems like you have first hand knowledge of them. Am I correct?

I have operated one of the SEE tractors when I was in the Army. They have a 16 speed transmission. The backhoe is made by Case and it works very well. All 4 tires can be deflated when off road from inside the cab by the operator and again inflate when back on the road.

what does one of those cost used?
that looks like a pretty handy setup.

You are probably looking at 200K. One of the side doors opens and you just pull out 25 feet of twin hydraulic hoses, preconnected . Then just plug in the chainsaw or pavement breaker and charge the lines. The saw has a 16 inch bar and the breaker an assortment if tools. The pavement breaker is a hand held one and not one that attaches to the hoe.

The Nam convoys used quite a few of the Cadilac Gages for escort duty. The GIs would add armor, M60s and mini guns to there 5 ton rigs. Man did they have alot of fire power! They even used M113s as seen above that were stripped of there useful parts and the empty armored hull was then bolted in to the back of a 5 ton as seen above! GREAT PICTURE! For those of you that didnt know the convoys would resupply the outer posts and when they would be making there trip they would get ambused. These convoys were mostly made up of 5 ton trucks that in the beginning had no armor. The GIs quickly adapted there vehicle to the new threat. Some of these vehicles are truly amazing! I adapted the same principle for a gold mine in....... never mind. Anyway the GIs were very creative and there end product worked very well.

Does that M113 still have tracks on it? I may have jumped the gun but it sure looks like a few rigs I have pictures of that was adapted for convoy escort.

Did you notice the twin m60's?
You can't see the mortar, but it's there.
I thought that I would get lambasted by my Too hot comment. (Thinking of the Iraq troops, god it was much hotter there)

Thanks for your interest.

Yes I did see the M60s! 90mm Mortor?

I think it was a m224 60mm. Been a long time ago.
Hell I was on loan as I was in the signal corps. They wouldn't let us have anything but telephone poles. I couldn't even get a light bulb for my deuce and a half, we had to steal one.

Well today we passed through OSKOSH WI. I tried to stop in at the Oskosh Military Truck production facility but they just wouldnt have it. Security is what there excuse was. Very nice people but they just couldnt understand why I would want a picture of there vehicles. OK.... well I tried folks. Now we are on our way to Indiana.

We went out to NJ to pick up our Spryte. It was stored at Camp Evans, which is slowly being repaired and rebuilt into a museum. The vehicles I have pictures of are part of a private, large collection. Eventually the guys whole collection will be housed there, but they are busy repairing the buildings now. Camp Evans is known for its radio communications work.

This quad 50 will be mounted in a half track. The half track was at the other location, so no pics of that.
