There are similar brands out there, this one costs less and is rated as one of the best values overall. https://dashcamtalk.com/viofo-a119s/

The main reason I like the Street Guardian is because it seems to have the best support out there among all the brands. When I dip my toes into the unknown I sort of like the idea of having someone to hold my hand if I fall down.

Great. The link to Amazon shows that the one they are selling is 99 bucks, also has a new improved Version 2 pin system which was one of the cons of the unit with one of the pins sticking and not making electrical contact. That has now been rectified with the new contact system.

I like the double stick tape mounting as well. Those damn suction cups never work right.

Cons:
Unit does not have parking mode. I need to give that some thought. That is one of the reasons I want one of these to watch my truck / cars when I am not around.

1 - The units that have the parking mode usually cost more.

2 - Most to the units with parking mode only save video if a shock sensor has been tripped. So it won't record anything that happens around your car, it only records if your car was hit hard enough to trip the sensor.

3 - are you only looking at single camera systems? If you want the parking mode then you may find more options in the dual camera systems.

I have used them off and on. Can really save your butt if you need it, but can hang you if you screwed up.

And this is one of the things that keeps me from buying one.

It is also one of the reasons I'd never have one hooked up to a GPS sensor either.

Agreed 110%. I am bagging this whole idea. To hell with spending over $300 bucks or more for 2 units and then incriminate myself when so ass hole runs a red light, but I was doing 31 in a 25 and the lawyer turns me into God know what. Screw that action I think I will just put the money to good use on an updated Garmin GPS for my truck with lifetime map updates. The better ones have lane departure and other driver assist functions my older truck does not have. I like Garmin products as I have always had great luck with them over the years so it will just be a matter of determining the best bang for the buck model.

Thanx all for great feedback and discussion.

Checked out the Garmin GPS stand alone units and found a nice one for 200 bucks. Seems the damn thing also has a built in dash cam. I can't get away from them now

She does not need that. She has google which sends me an email every month telling me where I've been and what I did. At my age, I don't have a damn thing to hide.
