I was looking through some old folders and came across this one.
I'm sure you all remember it.
When this pic first starting making the rounds on the internet, I liked it so much I printed it out on photo paper, framed it, and hung it in my restaurant with all kinds of other photos.
One day the sheriff and another gentleman came in and wanted to talk.
They asked if I had a picture of a baby duct taped to a wall.
I told them, sure, and pointed it out to them.
They took a picture of it and headed to the door.
I asked what was up?
They told me it was a case still under investigation, and they couldn't discuss it, but they each gave me their card.
One of course was the sheriffs, and the other guy was from Children's service in Michigan or Utah or something.
I took their cards and stuck them in the frame for the hell of it.
A number of months went by, when an older woman called me to her table.
She asked why those business cards were stuck in the picture frame of the baby.
I told her that some time back, children's services and the Sheriff wanted to see it.
She began to laugh, then told me a story:
Many months before, she had been in to eat, and saw the picture.
She was a highly protective grandmother.
She told me how she had duct taped all her daughters wall outlets, and anything else possibly dangerous in her daughters apartment to protect her grandbaby.
She got nicknamed "Duct tape Grandma".
She thought the picture was so funny and appropriate, that that she herself took a photo of it and texted it to her daughter for a laugh.
Apparently, the daughter liked it as well, and posted it to her facebook page.
It looked strikingly just like her kid.
In the meantime, the daughter got into some kind of fight with a co-worker.
Said co-worker decided she need to be jammed up, and called child protective services.
Child services showed up at her home with their own copy of the picture taken from her FB page, threatening to press charges and take away her kid.
And the investigation began...
In the end everything worked out, and charges were dropped.
