Trump Declares ‘No More DACA Deal,’ Border-Crossers Want ‘In On’ Amnesty

On Easter Sunday, President Trump announced he would no longer be pursuing a deal with the Republican establishment and Democrats to give amnesty to at least 1.8 million illegal aliens in exchange for a few pro-American immigration reforms.
In a series of tweets, Trump signaled a return to his “America First” immigration agenda, mentioning that he will no longer try to negotiate a deal between the GOP establishment and Democrats on the issue of giving amnesty to potentially millions of illegal aliens shielded from deportation by the President Obama-created Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

NO MORE DACA DEAL,” Trump wrote on Twitter, while also saying that Republicans “must go to Nuclear Option to pass tough” legislation that ends the “Catch and Release” program which releases border-crossers into the U.S. while they await trial:

The Catch and Release program was recently expanded with Trump’s signing of the omnibus spending bill with more illegal aliens set to be released this year into the interior of the country than the year before.

The “caravans” Trump mentions to in the Twitter post refers to the approximately 1,500 Central Americans who are traveling through Mexico and will soon reach the U.S. border where they will likely request refugee status in the country, as Breitbart Texas reported.

In another tweet, Trump threatened to take the U.S. out of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)—where between 2000 and 2014, there have been about five million American manufacturing jobs lost—if Mexico did not crackdown on stopping migrants traveling through the country to take advantage of generous asylum and refugee laws in the U.S.

Trump reiterated in the tweet, “NEED WALL!” after the Republican and Democrat-passed spending bill he signed barred him from building his border wall:

A third tweet by the president noted how border-crossers “want in on” a DACA amnesty that they believe will occur as the Trump administration has tried to broker an amnesty deal for months now between Republicans and Democrats.

For months, Breitbart News has reported how talk of a DACA amnesty in Washington, DC, has coincided with an increasing number of border-crossings at the southern border, with illegal immigration in recent months ticking back up to Obama-era levels.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen has even admitted that human smugglers and future illegal aliens follow the immigration debate in Washington, DC, to understand when their best chance is to cross into the country illegally.

Trump’s previous offer to Republicans and Democrats on DACA gave amnesty to 1.8 million illegal aliens, six times the population of Obama’s DACA program, and as Breitbart News reported, had the potential to become uncontrollable and unenforceable, opening the amnesty to millions more illegal aliens.

At the time, Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach called the White House amnesty plan “an extremely bad idea.”

The statements by Trump could be a turning point for the White House on immigration. The attempt to negotiate a DACA amnesty plan to please Democrats while also reducing overall immigration levels to the U.S. ultimately left the White House with nothing.

In the recent spending battle, House Speaker Paul Ryan’s omnibus did not include a single provision from Trump’s 70-point list of pro-American immigration reforms. Despite backlash from conservatives and organizations representing American workers in the immigration debate, Trump signed the spending bill anyway.

Donald Trump blasted Mexico, called for an end to the Senate filibuster rule, threatened to end the NAFTA trade deal, and told Democrats there would be no deal on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

TRUMP Tweet:

In two more tweets Sunday morning, Trump threatened to dismantle the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which he called Mexico's "cash cow," if the country doesn't reduce the flow of immigrants coming across the southern US border. Trump also tweeted that "big flows of people are all trying to take advantage of DACA. They want in on the act!"

The president elaborated on his way to Easter Sunday services:

"Mexico has got to help us at the border. If they're not going to help us at the border, it's a very sad thing between two countries. Mexico has got to help us at the border. And a lot of people are coming in because they want to take advantage of DACA and we're going to have to really see," he said. "They had a great chance. The Democrats blew it. They had a great, great chance. But we'll have to take a look. But Mexico has got to help us at the border. They flow right through Mexico. They send them into the United States. Can't happen that way anymore."This isn't the first time Trump has called for a change to Senate rules by invoking the "nuclear option," which would permit a simple majority to move forward on a measure. Last May, he called for Congress to move to a simple majority to pass health care and tax reform bills.

At this point, it doesn't look like Trump has much say in whether DACA continues or not. His March deadline for Senate action has passed but a federal judge says he can't end the program. As for filibuster reform, not much chance of that with the leadership of both parties in favor of keeping it.

And does NAFTA give Trump the juice to pressure Mexico into tightening its borders? It depends if Mexico believes Trump is going to scrap the deal anyway, or make it unpalatable through negotiations. I don't think either Mexico or Canada has much faith in NAFTA given the slow pace of talks and Trump's general antipathy to the deal.

But something has got to be done to pressure Mexico to enforce its own immigration laws. As this is being written, thousands of Central American migrants are streaming toward the U.S. border in an organized and calculated effort to pressure the U.S. to change its immigration policies. Mexican authorities have chosen to enable and facilitate this human wave. Unless there is a credible threat of retaliation, Mexico will continue to thumb its nose at the U.S. and defy our laws.

Lock down the borders, turn all non citizens away, let them be Mexico’s problem, deport them as soon as they are caught in this country, make it cost illegals too much to keep trying is enter . If needed stop imports from Mexico unless they help, reduce or stop the influx of illegals, if Mexico wants to turn a blind eye on the illegal problem then we make it cost them trade and therefore money. We could also severely restrict travel to Mexico to cut monies flowing into their economy, and with the increase in drug cartel murders in Mexico that would give a reason to restrict travel in the dangerous areas of Mexico.
