I never took you as a Train spotter Rusty....but i must say the engineering aspect on the old steam locomotives is fascinating.

The most famous here i guess would be the Flying Scotsman....and what a beauty she is.

Cool site.

Sacramento has an excellent train museum http://www.csrmf.org/

We have a pretty cool miniature closeby http://www.svls.org/

I have never been, but a few hours south of me, is the "movie railroad". It covers valley "priarie" to high mountians. 100's of tv and movie rail scenes have been shot there. "Petti Coat Junction" was filmed there. Hope to get there some day...

All those old trains are really cool.

The closest I have ever gotten to a real train was in Indiana at a coal fired power plant. My good friend works there in the coal yard and took me in on his day off to tour the facility. I did get to climb inside the locomotive that was sitting there idling. Then I got to see them dumping the coal into the yard feeder. The damned coal car was turned upside down to empty it, not out the bottom like I thought. The couplers were designed for it to do that.

This was a diesel locomotive, not one of the old timers. It was fun none the less.

This is a fun one to ride. It is 1.5 hours from me

Felton, outside Santa Cruz has cool trains

Our Boy Scouts have taken the Skunk Train, from Fort Bragg, to Camp Noyo. the Scout camp is only accessed by a rail stop. Even for summer camp, when they bring in 1-200 boys, they all come/go by train

The "minitures" I posted previously, are not like HO scale minitures. They are tide on trains. I think they charge 50 cents or a dollar.

Some of them are real steamers:

Cool pics and links guys. My son is a huge train enthusiast. I was 12 the last time I took a train ride.

I remember watching a show called "Monster Moves". They moved an old steam locomotive from Bloomfontein South Africa to Glasgow Scotland. It was neat to watch them move that old steam loco over miles and miles of rail, then load it onto a ship to cross half the world and get it up to Glasgow. The train apparently had not moved in 30 years and was stored under cover the whole time which is why is was in such good shape.

If you do some research, there is a scrap yard for old steam locomotives down in Bloemfontein South Africa. Trains from around the african continent are brought there to be torn down for scrap metal.

Great link , vids & Pics . I allways have been a huge fan of the ole steam trains as well , I used to ride them at least once a year when I would go to Colorado for relaxing time  .

Amazing what you can see from the trains that otherwise goes unnoticed , this is one of my favorite train trips , Not my video of coarse though .

2 more railroad pieces these were known as motors rather than engines and were just automobiles of the day converted with railroad running gear if you wern't moving a lot of weight these were more effeciant to operate.
